Kitten update #4
Well, we are not out of the woods yet. I have observed resident cat (Maggie) and kitten (Yoko) touching noses twice without hissing/growling but there is still plenty of that going on. The kitten was in for her last vaccinations and I talked to the vet and tech about the situation. They said to give it more time as long as there's no blood or fur flying. They also said to feed them together - within in sight of each other. Apparently that leads to some kind of bonding. So I've been doing that - even about six inches apart - and it goes okay. Maggie usually hisses at Yoko as she departs the feeding area. I also got a pheromone diffuser - not sure if that's a scam but thought it was worth a try.
Maggie does seem to be sticking around most of the time to do what she wants - lay in the sun on the porch or get attention. She's not nearly as reclusive as she was so that's good but Yoko gets in her face and ruins her enjoyment quite often. I think they'd be fine if the kitten didn't stalk her and rush and jump at her but she is still a curiosity to the kitten. September 7 will be two months so I'll see how it's going then.
Fortunately the other cat loves the kitten - he lets her play with him and they sleep together. He's kind of big and I think he's slimming down a bit from being more active.

Our Humane Society is over-run with cats this summer, and they are running a program where when you buy one kitten/cat, you can buy another one, 1-year and older for $10. Comments (22)I have to laugh because this reminds me of how our Josie pup won over my depressed aging father. He is always very grumpy and negative towards her, but she just keeps on wagging her tail and looking at him excitedly with those puppy dog eyes. Don't ask me why, but she seems to have an inbred need for everyone, and I mean everyone, to like her so she just keeps after him. While he won't allow himself to get openly fond of her, he tolerates her, doesn't complain about her (this is a man who has never found a reason NOT to complain about anything and everything) and seems to not mind her company, even though he is constantly chastising her, she is oblivious . . ....See MoreKitten update # ???
Comments (19)Katz, I made a post about the great success I had with a feline calming product, like Feliway but a different brand. Our cat had suddenly began peeing any where BUT his litter box, due to some environmental stresses. Our vet suggested a spray and diffuser of this feline hormone stuff which we purchased, implemented, and waited with baited breath. It worked immediately and is still working to this day. The vet said they used calming products in side the examination rooms, surgery prep areas, and kennels.
