Windows Home Decorating

Help with window!!!

I recently moved , the previous owner has a lot of wood work. I got new lighting and dining table to fit more my style. I am torn on what to do with the wood work on the window do I cover it with a vertical shade or paint it or maybe a curtain. I hear painting wood work like that takes time and up keep. Any advice would help thank you!

Unless you're going to paint all the woodwork in the room let it alone and decide on a window treatment

At this point we are just considering the options, but this is a current possibility, bring the wall in 2' on either side, we could just do it with 2x4's and then exteriorsiding that would be stuccoed to match the outside of the house. Build out the insideto match the drywall, cut off the portion of the sill outside where there will no longer be a window. Then build the interior area to accept probably 5 2' wide windows with 4 5" posts in between, and yes we would not use the colonial style molding, try to source something to match the 5" baseboard we currently have in place. It will be a big job and I can do a lot of it myself, however I think it would be worth it and then the window seat under would like so much nicer, thanks for the help, not sure when we will be able to do it as the windows will be at least $250 each for Simonton 5500's. In the meantime we are going to use the window tint to give us some privacy and still allow light and wait on tax time :), thanks for the help everyone. I will post when we move forward with the project.

I love your nook; it's very sweet. You can totally add little shelving on the opposite side of the existing window to create your Cozy Book Nook. Thanks for all the suggestions. @patricia colwell consulting, just leaving it down is a likely option. I can always pull out the kitchen tongs for the few times I need to operate it lol. @jennifer hogan, film is an option to consider. @beverlyfladesigner, believe me, that discussion’s been had. I agree with you, but I’m just so glad to get all that stuff off my kitchen island, I’ll basically let him have this in whatever position he wants!:) FYI, it took seven years to get it out of the kitchen!!!! @sammy, that’s a good idea, but I like clean light into the room. @smcf03, I hadn’t thought about a remote, I’ll check that out. I appreciate everyone’s help.

First off you have beautiful home and congratulation on your new home. I'd suggest going to the floor if you're going to go with curtains on these window and if you're okay with going above the picture rail i'd suggest that. Going above the rail will just add height to your room. 1/4'' is going to be too narrow to do an inside mount. If you like the idea of having some of your trim show you can always mount on your trim, but just don't cover it all. Honeycomb and roller shades would be good pairing options with curtains. A roller shade will project out farther than a honeycomb shade.... just something to consider. If you're open to suggestions on an alternative option consider an Illusion shade. They have a modern look and give you versatility with light and privacy. The illusion shades are beautiful on their own or look nice with panels as well.

No I despise vertical blinds I would actually remove the one on your slider. I would do a faux roman shade on the window.

If privacy or light control is not an issue put matching valances on both windows and room will look great.

Can't agree more with Rho Dodendron, keep the existing one if you don't have a plan to renovate the entire space.

"Has a lot of woodwork": trim is normal and is not A LOT, the little trim we see is pretty sparse really. Many homes have elaborate deep moldings, but painting it out is not has risky as kitchen cabinets, it won't get the abuse doors do. As a rule an entire home has a consistent trim out (same wood, same style, same color). If you paint any you should be ready to paint all. People do start individualizing trim for a room closed off unto itself but again all the trim out--windows trim, doors, baseboards tend to be same same in that room.
