DO NOT BUY VIKING RANGES

The new Viking range has not been working since it was installed in June 2022. All four burners have operational issues (one is completely unusable) and there is a recall on the gas line to the oven which prevents the oven from being used for safety reasons (per Middleby Residential which owns Viking). More than 8 weeks after installation the range is still non-functional. Middleby offered to have someone come repair the burners and do the recall work (the recall 'fix' is a 30 step process that requires dismantling the entire appliance.) Repairs and replacements to a brand new range are an unacceptable remedy - I purchased a new range (for good money) not a refurbished appliance.

DO NOT BUY Viking products or anything from Middleby. They do not treat the consumer properly and do not adequately warrant their product to be free from defects. A waste of money and time. Extremely disappointed and will never work with this company again.

Sorry yoyr brand new appliance is unusable. How disappointing and frustrating! While many people have been happy with their Vikings, the highly regarded appliance store we purchased our Miele from sells Viking but informs every buyer that they will no longer service them because of all of the issues they have. Our salesperson steered us very clear of the Viking products.

The gas line recall bit us too. It’s a huge recall, affecting loads of various applications. In our situation, the propane line for our outdoor fireplace was recalled. They had to dig up our patio, remove the recalled gas line, run a new one, then repair the patio area they dug up. Luckily, our patio is paver brick. Our neighbor has a poured stamped concrete patio, so it had to be completey excavated and repoured in order to accomodate their gas line recall repair.

WHAT!!! How could this be? Viking not a high quality top tier appliance manufacturer. They advertise they are among the best.

Barryv's suggestion to have the internal overtemp breakers checked is a good one, but, because there is no electrical to the stove, at all, I suspect that the problem may be further upstream. I would check a couple of other things first. If you have not already done so, switch the breaker all the way off and then switch it back on to be sure it is fully engaged. If that does not (or did not) fix things, I'd switch off the breaker, pull the stove and check the cord and connections. It has been twelve years since you installed the stove. The back can be the land that time forgets. Might be a loose cord connection at the stove, something wrong with the power cord (check continuity) or maybe something broke or failed in the 240v outlet (pull the cover and check the wires and contacts.) armada--By basic I meant I am looking at the least complicated range in the Viking line, the one with the fewest electronic components. breezy--so, they've extended their warranty, but people are still having hassles getting a decent response from customer service?

Replacing Viking Range Hinges

On mine there was no way the hinges were going to come out through the hole. On the back of the panel right behind the hinge there were 2 screws. It's a piece of cake to remove and install new ones from the back. I suspect official Viking service may not want it to seem so easy. You will have to take out the racks and oven floor but it should be out and back together in a matter of minutes. It took me longer to get the door off than to install the hinge.

I like it! I'd just do the backsplash up to the base of the cabinets and base of the hood. Then I might box in the space above the stubby cabinet so it visually goes all the way up, or heck, put in a basket and see how it looks! (The "box" could be just trim--it doesn't HAVE to come out to shelf depth...although you could shelf depth it and also have shelves alongside the hood...) If you wanted to do 'splash up by the chimney as well, continue it over to the basket area if you don't box it off.

@dan1888 being sarcastic. The Viking appliances have been getting horrible reviews for many years. The last time Viking was considered good was at least 20 years ago, maybe more. You would have done better with an inexpensive Maytag than a Viking. Before making expensive purchases, always do research and not believe marketing and looks.
