black or chrome - shower rod / vanity hardware finish?

For context: Everything else has already been ordered except the shower rod and vanity hardware finish. We were originally going to go with black matte but seeing how the tiles are coming together, we are wondering if we are going too black? We don’t have chrome anywhere else except the shower.

The blue in the photo would be the vanity color. And our vanity actually is a different design now, we would need two knobs and 1 pull.

Should we go with chrome or black shower rod?
And should we switch out the vanity hardware to chrome to match the faucet?

I would not do a shower curtain at all just a nice glass shower screen and please get rid of the EDison bulbs in thta space crappy lighting and too yellow all the lvely white will look awful Batrooms and kitchens need really good LED 4000K lighting always

IMO it really depends upon individual situations. Proximity weighs in, too. Of course, all the same finishes is fine; but that does not mean mixing isn't to be done, just that it needs to be done thoughtfully. A mix can draw attention to what you want to be focal points and can make a room be more interesting visually. In our guest bath, all of the finishes are brushed nickel, except the TP holder. But the TP holder is attached to the side of a dark wood vanity, and I did not want to draw attention to it. The antique bronze blended in perfectly, yet does not look out of place because it is visually an extension of the vanity. Along those lines, shower curtain rods, shower door handles and toilet levers are often not a design feature you want to accent, so I would use what would make them visually less noticeable. Ceiling lighting and sconces generally are the same finish, but I believe you can successful pull off an outstanding antique bronze chandelier, for example, by having utilitarian sconces and faucet fixtures in a nickel finish. Items on the same impact level, such as faucets and towel bars, I would usually try to keep the same finish. If the faucets are the focal, they could be one finish and the balance of the other items in the room be something else. As for proximity, I believe all the finishes inside the shower can match, but be different than the finishes in other areas of the room, IF there is a reason/point of doing so. A shower head in one finish and the shower knobs in another would be trickier to pull off but may work if the finish of the knobs blended with the tile so the shower head becomes a focal point. Some finishes mix better than others. And the design style of the features in the mix matter. As does the backdrop, as mentioned above.

I got the YNL shower curtain rod recommended above from Amazon (thank you @Sarah Pecor!) and found these shower curtain hooks in brass that match pretty well from Parachute. They have a nice weight to them and when I walk in the room to me it all matches. They don’t stand out and don’t look super yellow which is what I’ve been trying to avoid. I find that brass looks different in different lighting and also different in person vs in pictures. To me it’s close enough and I’m happy with the closeness to my delta trinsic champagne brass hardware. The shower wall tile is the marble look porcelain. I was planning on something like the included images for the countertop but I'm waiting to see the tile installed before I decide. I agree, I need to go subtle or it will be too busy. Tile goes in early next week. Thanks.

Help - Master Shower Hardware and Glass Enclosure?

Hi @gigi4321! We still haven't done the glass enclosure because of the exterior remodeling we've been focused on, but are working on getting a new quote next week and are hoping to have the enclosure installed within the next 2-3 weeks (finally). I'll be asking the tech and installer's opinions before I finalize anything, but while I do genuinely prefer black hardware (and will be using that elsewhere in the house, such as door hinges, handles, and kitchen cabinet handles), I also really want the mosaic in the shower to pop as much as possible. We designed and built that entire shower area around the glass and marble mosaic and don't want it overshadowed by black hardware, though are definitely willing to take other opinions on whether black hardware would overshadow or just offset. ETA: We do make our overall decision in the context of how we're changing the rest of the bathroom. i.e., we are replacing the mirror completely, likely with no border or at least something neutral/barely existent; we'll replace the lights with the appropriate hardware to match the shower enclosure; and we're likely replacing the sink counter top with something white/marble-looking.

i would say Chrome rod

FWIW - we just had a chrome shower rod installed from signature hardware that my tile guy cut to size and its lovely - clean and classic

ETA - I agree that vanity hardware could be black if you love it - agree with Stiley on approach

I'd do a chrome shower rod to match your faucet. Is the sink faucet chrome too? You could do black cabinet pulls to mix it up. I think the permanent things like faucets should all match, but the "jewelry" can be a different finish.

You can mix metals. I like what you put on your mood board.

One change: see if you can find a fixture with frosted glass, or if you stick with this one, find frosted LED bulbs that look nice. Edison bulbs in clear fixtures are too harsh for vanities (they're better for dimmed accent lighting), and also they tend to be very warm toned.

I don't really like 4000K lighting personally, I think it's too cool toned. But experiment with 3500-4000K until you find the right balance for you.

In bathrooms, I love using GE Reveal bulbs -- tbh, I have no idea what color temperature they really are, because they're kind of different. They're balanced, but very slightly pinker than normal bulbs -- which I find very flattering.

They keep changing them though, so I don't know if the new ones are as good. I do like that they look like "normal" incandescent bulbs. You can always return them if you don't like them. Also, you might need to experiment whether you want 40 or 60 watt equivalent -- every bathroom is kind of different, but with clear fixtures, you might want to start with 40.

If you can't find something good at a hardware store, you might need to go to a lighting store and asking for help.
