The last of the FFOs, group shots, prolif bloom, seedlings

There will be no more FFOs unless Belle Isle Sentry does its late reblooming thing, but I will continue to have blooms perhaps to frost.

Bee pollen seedling, 3rd year now. FFO

Seedling Sears Tower x ? finally able capture the orange dusting. Long bloom time only second year. This year it is a bud builder.

Carmen Renee x VT The Last Melon. This has really changed as the year has progressed. It has continually gotten prettier. It was a pinkish lavender color but now a thistle color blend. Was a bi color now slightly bitone. Now has nice halo.

Seedling FIrst Light x Indian Giver on a proliferation. The only scape that wasn't purple.

I just looked up Sheer Ecstasy on the Schreiners gardens site and while it looked ok, no way does it look like the stop you in your tracks gorgeous bloom that your garden shot shows. Thats why its so difficult to pick them just from the catalog photos. I love to see garden shots whenever possible. kay- About expending the bloom season. I did just about everything that could possibly be done last year to extend my daylily season. You know I went very heavily into proven late season bloomers for my area and really hope I have finially gotten real rebloomers, again for my area. I also tried some early bloomers although I was not sure this was really the way to go. The early bloomers mostly were not that exciting a flower and there were lots of plain yellow and yellow and more yellow choices. So as far as that goes, I have what I have. I will continue to work on getting more rebloom and true August blooming late bloom in my daylilies. But for the earlier bloom, I have given up on daylilies and am turning to Iris instead for my spring blooms. I have 28 Siberian Iris planted now and 8 more on order for this week. I am trying to figgure out what I will order for my Tall Bearded and maybe can get something that blooms before the TB. My garden is so heavily mulched (it looks like a woodland with the thick carpet of leaves between my shrubs and roses) and the Siberians can take the same conditions as the daylilies. So it was a challenge to me to figgure out how and were I was going to add bearded iris, which can not take my preferred mulching routine. Its always a work in progress.

All of your seedlings are lovely but the first one is really nice. I like the intensity of the purple with the green throat. The second one bears watching. I wonder in other weather conditions if it would break into a pattern. I would definitely say it has patterned sepals. The third one is lovely too even if it is not what you hoped for. It has rich color and a nice watermark. Nancy

THANKS, Mantis. Verbascum is a newly discovered treasure. I planted it a year ago and already it has reseeded lots of babies in close proximity. I wasn't sure how it would overwinter but it came back fine. I also had not seen the pink variety and think it is much prettier. Maryl, the gray foliaged plant with those bright magenta blooms is rose campion. Scientific name is lychnis coronaria. This is another one of those plants that reseeds everywhere in my garden. It is a fuss-free plant and provides a bright pop of color. I started with just one plant last year.....kinda hard to believe, but true. Those are all babies! (closer photo below) Julia, after finding my first Japanese beetles yesterday, I had to go out with a bucket of soapy water and knock a couple dozen off my roses. The war has begun. Glad I was able to enjoy the roses a week longer than usual. They are toast now.

Olallie Autumn Gold sure has a saturated color that must stand out in the garden.....Hope you have a nice normal winter so we can see what your Carmen Renee seedling does next year. I still find the corduroy texture of the petals is what sets it apart from just another lavender daylily. It's beautiful.................Maryl

I agree with others about the Carmen Renee seedling-it is really pretty. Your collection of VTs certainly gives you a lot of late season color.

Thanks for your comments on the Carmen Renee seedling. There was a sister of it earlier that I posted that looked corduroy on both the petals and sepals, a larger flower.

I crossed Carmen Renee with many others over the past year or two. A whole lot more should bloom next year. Most should be lates as I crossed it with other lates. Really trying to build up my late season. A number of mids that I'm tired of or aren't doing well are going away to make room. I have a lady nearby that wants to get into daylilies so I'm giving good ones to her.

Yes, Olallie A G really stands out brightly.

What I like about our weather here in the Lexington KY area is we are right on the border between the north and south weather systems. Sometimes a front will sit here a few days. Keeps us fairly wet, and while we can get very hot or very cold, it rarely lasts long. There are a number of daylily gardens in the area, probably for that reason.

I like your garden shots--very pretty. The Sears Tower seedling is the one that catches my eye. Is it tall like Sears Tower? A super tall daylily with a color other than yellow would be a welcome addition to the garden.

Nancy, at this point [second year] it is around 40 inches so shorter than Sears Tower, However, last year it was around 32, so maybe it will catch up!
