A FFO bloom, plus few others,,,again
Comments (2)The NOID is pretty, but my favorite of the bunch is Elizabeth Salter. I just got Red Volunteer last year because I had heard some good comments about it, so am not sure how fast it multiplies. I'm not real crazy about the color yet, but maybe I'll warm up to it. Comments (15)Avedon- You always crack me up that my pictures are your reward for getting your work done :-) cracking and Nancy- Chili Spice has been here since 2007. I bought it at the Shooters. It sure doesn't look like anything else, quite distinctive. I love the look. msjam- I would think your climate would be much diffent than mine there in Dallas Texas. But you have your zone listed as a 7B. How do hard dormants do for you? Any problems? My very first recommendation for you would be Maryotts. They have great stock that should grow like crazy for you. In fact you could go hog wild and add their entire Route 66 collection of 30 daylilies and have a fabulous show. Comments (14)Thanks Nat! :) I agree about delphiniums....they're one of my favorite flowers except that whenever we get heavy rain & wind, down they go! Right after I took that picture they ended up in the mud. I have too many plants to stake everybody. So, I didn't lose as many daylilies as I originally thought. It took forever & ever for Rapid Eye Movement, Born to Run, Siloam Cinderella and Terry Lyninger to show signs of life. They each came up in mid-June! All appeared as single, pitiful fans but at least they're alive. I was about to plant something else in their places when they appeared. The two that are definitely DEAD are Navajo Princess and Berry Cheesecake. I dug and they were nothing but mush. Both were pretty but I won't replace them. Prior to this past winter I had never lost a daylily so I guess I should consider myself lucky. I do have a couple of daylilies that dwindled down from clumps to just a few fans, though. It wasn't a good winter for roses either. Celeste...See MoreWeekend FFO's and Other Blooms
Comments (12)Sherry - It's no great surprise the seedlings are outperforming the registered ones. That's where all the fertilizer and supplemental water went. Nan - Thanks for your kind comment about the near white seedling. I am very fond of that one. However, I was disappointed it had so few buds this time. Two years ago, with bud building, it had one scape with 47 buds. Last year, with bud building, it had a scape with 41 buds, and the rest of the scapes had bud counts in the high teens and twenties. This year with the lack or rain in May and June, plus such a long stretch of temps near 100, there was no bud building. The best scape had 21 buds, and the six others had bud counts ranging from 16-19. Karen, who used to post here, has a piece of that one and she said it had lots of buds and branches in Massachusetts this year. Debra...See Moreceleste/NH
