Out with the old. Need new equipment.
Comments (37)I forgot to add lights. It looks like a Sylvan pool. That would lead me to believe you have American Products lights. American Products is now part of Pentair. That means Intellibrite LED lights will fit your niches. I didn't see the deck boxes in your pictures so I can't say how long the cord needs to be. The choices are 30, 50, 100 and 150 feet long. Measure the distance from the deck box to the pool edge near the light niche. Add 10' to allow for the rise from the inside of the pool to the deck boxes and service slack. A 31' total run would need a 50' equipped light fixture. The excess will get cut off. Don't get one that's too short because extending the cord would not pass an inspection and could be hazardous....See MoreSwim Spa-Do you have one?
Comments (22)After following comments on Hot Tub Universty (which i thought was the best site explaining spa technical details, reading online reviews, talking with my neighbor’s pool maintenance guys, I decided on Master Spas. Btw, Michael Phelps has his own spa product line manfactured by Maśter Spas. Since I am not a swim fanatic, i decided the regular Master Spa was good enough for my needs. i even met a recommended swim spa contractor whom I liked, and was ready to work with him. However when he sent his proposal, i did not like his cut corners electrical upgrade proposal, and proposed to do the electrical box upgrade separately, but he declined, giving me time to re-assess this project, and line up positives against negatives. Meanwhile the city pools re-opened and i was swimming my laps again. While the main positive is obviously having your own swim spa in your backyard, the biggest negatives were stacking up: - The ugly big tank sticking out and up in your yard on a large cement pad (submerging it halfway in a “vault” is not only expensive but complicates access for inevitable maintenance). - Further, I hated the additional ugliness of the plastic cover. Wood covers are heavy and expensive, with mechanical openers tripling the cost. The negatives kept getting problematic even if one could afford it all. - Ultimate issue that prevented me from continuing this project was the California’s water shortage and mandatory rationing, while the spa maintenance required the water changed every 6 months! Better luck to you! Let us know what you decide!...See MoreHelp evaluating a bid in Michigan
Comments (2)Sounds high to me - esp. some of the upgrades. An automatic pool cover should be about half of what you're paying. The upgrade costs from standard plaster are also super-high. Unless prices have doubled from what I paid 2 years ago, the costs for similar upgrades and options for my 45 x 14 foot pool were about 40 percent of what you are being charged (and I'm in So. Cal., where construction costs are high). Also, if you're putting in a volleyball thing, it would seem that a sport pool (with the deep part in the middle and shallow on both ends) would be more conducive to playing volleyball....See MoreSpa jet remodel
Comments (13)bberger, 30 years ago it was common to allow 1/2 HP per jet. Thus, a 2HP pump was common. Things have changed, todays pumps are much more efficient at moving water. Smaller HP will run more jets. Plumbing size is still a concern. A new 1HP pump will most likely run your four jets. To properly size it, I would look at the plumbing size, the filter size and the number of jets. Did the existing pump provide good jet action? What size is it? What is your goal?...better jet action?, lower electric costs?, upgrading ease of function? Questions you should probable answer before slapping equipment onto your pool. It sounds like you are stuck with the venturi's you have. You can add eyeballs to the pipe to get a more finished look and if you put a threaded fitting/body on the pipe like racket suggests, you may get a little more functionality....See MoreAdam F
