What pocket door locks can I use?

Hi,

So my house has sliding wooden doors, and I recently had some pocket door locks installed, but the qualiry is bad. And I’ve seen some nice ones online but most of them are smaller than the ones I have.

This is the style my doors have right now, some are keyed. So the part that goes into the door is longer than most locks I’ve seen, and since the door is already modified for it I guess I need them like this.

But most of the ones I find are Lock and Pull, and I only really need lock.

The link I provided is exactly like what mine looks like, but I was hoping for something less expensive and good quality. Anyone can recommend me some?

They’re bedroom doors and bathroom/closet.

I think if you foresee siblings using the jack and jill bath to go into their sibling's room, that would be a reason not to have that style of bath. I think having locks that make it possible to lock someone inside the bathroom would be a safety issue. Also, pocket doors are loud-- they aren't a great choice for doors that are likely to be used in the middle of the night. FWIW, my kids aren't all that interested in going into each other's rooms without permission (and especially not while someone is dressing), but if they had a jack and jill style bath, I'd expect them to use it in a way that respect's their sibling's privacy.

The old-time way of stopping double pocket doors was a flippable toggle screwed into the embedded edge of the doors. If the toggle was out, it would catch the jamb and the door would move no further; for working on the door (and getting a lost item out of the pocket) the toggle would be turned with a thin tool (yardstick, putty knife) and the door would be free. They once sold patented cast iron versions, but a simple wood toggle will do. You can buy complete sets of vintage sliding door locks/pulls on ebay. oy vey! Casey

Thank you. That makes sense and the multi-point on the 2nd door does sound like what I'm wanting. As it turns out the multi-point lock this manufacturer uses, won't work on the secondary door. I guess all locks are not created equal and this particular one doesn't bolt into the head jamb and threshold. Regardless, you help me better communicate my needs to the manufacturer.

So there's no reason you actually need them keyed, right? We have an Ives Schlage bolt on our bathroom pocket door which works on a different principle from most, and is located on the opposite side of the door from where you think it would be. My contractor is a big fan of pocket doors, with the caveat that "most pocket door locks just suck". This thing was his suggestion and it works really well. I think I'd find it a little awkward on (say) a powder room that guests are using all the time, as they may not figure it out right away, but for private spaces used by the home's residents like bedroom or master bathroom I think they're ideal.
