I’ve recently seen people on social media espousing the ease of rechargeable light bulbs in lamps. They recharge using a cord similar to phones. I actually use a similar set up in a pantry closet. It is similar to under counter light and has a sensor. It needs recharged about every 6 weeks and is ready in a few hours.

I own some of those and love them for the closets That don’t have any lighting. They work by detecting motion and are rechargeable through a USB type cord

It might be worth a try for lamps. Definitely better choice compared to cords stretched across room

I really like the idea of a smaller table no lamp but add a pretty brass reading floor lamp like this inspiration photo..so pretty

Pretty colors for your room

Thank you so much for your advice regarding my decor dilemma. This inspiration photo is so pretty… and I really like it!! However I need more lighting in my room and feel a table with lamps would suit my needs best and the room arrangement has a better flow now with new furniture placement. I do need a floor lamp for my husbands desk, a simple profile like the one you posted would work. We’re running out of space! Again, thank you, I appreciate you.

Update on this room - things are coming along, the mantle is coming in next week, electrical outlet has been installed at front window (ready for table and lamps now). Electrical plugs/outlets at the FP wall have been moved to behind the TV (will post photo once wall has been painted). My next decision will have to be about the lamps. I need two for the glass top console table (30h x 55L x 14d) and a dimmable floor lamp for next to the desk. I don’t know how to tall to go with the console table lamps…should I get 30”+ buffet lamps or a pair that has more shape (not as tall and thin)? I hope that when the table arrives and is placed, along with installation of stationary panels on sides of big window, that I will get a better sense of the space and what might look best.

Our mantle is completed, decided to paint it same as all other trim, kept the design simple and we liked the idea of leaving top piece natural. I hope you all agree, it’s pretty nice. I still need lumbar pillows, a few new lamps on the new console table (photos 2 and 3 - glass top and mirrored shelf). We like our new furniture arrangement (thank you Flo!), but I definitely feel my rug is too small now. We are finishing off a nearby staircase so I could use this rug for a runner on the steps, and buy something larger with more color for our living room.

I’d like to know how you all feel about my lamp selection. I’ll post a few I found in next comment but PLEASE let me know if I’m going in the wrong direction! Thank you ;)

Did you get rid of the floor lamps? Im not sure you need more lamps in here, or that table honestly.

Hello! I still have the heavy floor lamps but no overhead lighting. it’s dark in here sometimes and those dont seem like enough. Maybe I’ll play around a little with the lamp placement. I just put chairs back in place after paint job so could live with it for a while before deciding. I like low level ambient lighting at night while watching tv. Maybe just one on the end?
I’ll try to get a picture of entire room once vacated.

Gorgeous! Drapery looks very nice. Couple of details. TV Doesn’t look centered? The art over in desk area is hung too high. Drop it down about 2-3”. Your fireplace turned out very nice. Did he just do wood on sides. Love placement of your floor lamps
Now on to accessories! A throw for recliner. Two lumbar pillows for chairs. One or two Buffet lamps for console at front windows. Found these recently.

Torchiere style lamps will get you might general room light, and then I would suggest a reading light over the chairs.

Thank you Flo and RL Relocation LLC - great eyes on the details! I will center the TV on the mantle, drop the picture down a little and start searching for pillows. I shopped in town today and found NOTHING for lumbar pillows (dismal shopping where I live). As far as lighting goes, I really just need to supplement the tall lamps that I have…though I don’t love them anymore, they work in my space and I’m afraid if I buy torchiere style AND reading lamps I’ll have too many floor lamps (cords everywhere) and not enough light where I want it (behind me while watching TV). I’ve been a HUGE fan of the candlestick lamps by RH and these pewter metal table lamps remind me so much of them! Way better price too… I need to be careful of the height cuz I don’t want to see the bulb from my couch. I found one today and brought it home for height, color and texture…it’s not bad but I think there may be better ones out there. Thanks for these suggestions, I’ll take a closer look tonight!

Key thing for lamps on the console is making sure the lamp shade is more narrow that table depth. Then shades fit nicely.

Thank you both for your additional comments and ideas. I appreciate the time you’ve taken to search and consider these items. Many of them I like and some are a little formal for my space. I really love the blue/green piece above and have wondered if bringing in some pottery color would work. For pillows, I have long wanted a print because of all the solids in the room. The small print on the chairs makes it harder to know what works! I haven’t seen any prints I like (with the exception of one printed pillow previously posted). Flo, you asked what I liked? I like animal prints, paisley and floral, tone on tone and solid if it has to be! As far as the lamps go, I’m keeping my floor lamps and going to try the small Target lamps that mimic the RH lamps I’ve been drawn to for years (what a great find!). My husband would like a small standing desk lamp for his corner, so I’d love to find one that would work there too! Lamps, pillow and decor…oh my! Here’s a better photo of the fabric of the chairs. THANKS AGAIN!! (I’m posting a photo of a pillow that has colors that I love and works on my couch)and could on the chairs? Ideally, I want them to be different though. I’ve taken the pillow from another couch, but could probably order some of this fabric and have lumbar pillows made)

He need a desk lamp. I would say if you are adding a lamp to the console, only add one. not a pair.

Maybe even consider only then using one of the floor lamps

Your print on the chairs is very subtle so you can do a medium print or pattern for lumbar. No problem.

I especially like the colors in the teal and blue pillows but wonder if it’s too similar to the ikat print, though I understand your advice on print size Flo. The heron print is so attractive and I see how that could work, giving me food for thought. Previous recommendation for arching lamps may have worked but I feel my space is too small. I like the idea of 2 smaller lamps on the console table, realizing they may only be good for low level ambient lighting (and that’s okay). I hope to find a desk lamp that wont be too large, something that is small and really only “seen” when it’s in use. Everdebz, I love some of the decor items you found, especially the bowls - unique and a beautiful!

Thank you for all the lamp and desk lamp suggestions and apologies for just getting back to you now. Although I like some of these, I’ve decided to try the ones from Target (made by Ashley), that are simple and smaller. The table width is just 14” so I don’t want anything too big. I’ll put up a photo after they arrive and get your opinions…I think they will work nicely. I’ll be looking at the desk lamps next!

I had the same situation and went for a round solid wood table suitable size to match and go between the two chairs- take a picture of your chairs so when you go shopping for one you can match it. Also, add a rug underneath to define the area. We love the little sitting area near the window for reading and drinking tea- ours is used all the time as very relaxing near window- you will enjoy your too hopefully so make it cozy :). I also added a small foot rest.

Momof5x that’s great you were able to pull together your quiet area with chairs, table and small rug near window. I always find that a such a welcoming and warm setup to see when going into a home. I might create that in another room upstairs. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.
