Ship Lap for coastal look

Hello.
I’m going to ship lap the walls in my back room and the ceiling in my small Florida condo. Is all ship lap equal? Should I just buy off the floor in one of the big box stores? Help!!

Not at all equal. 4 years ago, it was being done in just about every new build, and the real thing was bought from a real lumber yard. Now it has completely disappeared in new builds, and is rarely seen in remodels. Once terrible quality fake materials reached the mass retail box stores, it was an way over saturated trend that was done with. The designers washed their hands of it and were off to the next trend of fake wainscotting.

Frank and Frank is right. I have a friend who bought shiplap from the orange store, and a couple of years later is infested with termites, and the first thing the termite guy asked is if she bought it from the orange store, as apparently this is happening all over south Florida! He said the larvae is being laid in the wood in the warehouse and then being put into peoples’ house and nobody is the wiser to it. Crazy

Kswl~ Did you use the 50.00 off code ? I've purchased at least 4 mirrors from Wisteria but no longer because they now charge an extra 75.00 (processing fee) for mirrors. That makes it 93.00 just to shipping. OK ,done with that rant......... Love the mirror !!

Patti- Wood will contract/expand some with temperature changed, but more with humidity changes. When I've seen ship lap hung there's usually a small allowance between boards to allow for that. MDF is great for some applications. Stable, doesn't contract/expand/easily painted. But it's enemy is moisture. It expands and stays expanded if it gets wet. IMO the definition of a bathroom is wet. There is a marine grade MDF that is moisture resistant that can handle some moisture exposure. When my BF built my bathroom vanity it's what he used. It's been a couple years now and it's held up fine and our bathroom gets daily use by two people. I have no idea if the moisture resistant MDF come's in a tongue and groove pattern. I've not every seen it, but then again I've not looked. Here's the link to a spec sheet I found online. Thanks, that's what i know too but I'm hoping someone will help me not just do white through out :)) I am also doing an old brick herringbone fireplace with ceiling height tall weathered vertical beams and mantle, then the ceiling in this very large Living Room will be the white ship lap. Some shade of white anyway. Also the entryway which winds around to the guest bath and there's where i want to change color on moldings...maybe. The vanity wall is this amazing wallpaper and the ship lap will be across from that. Sorry no pictures yet. It's still in my head.

Many pieces I have may appear a different color than they really are in person. Everything I own is not all in the brown/beige/tan family. I actually have many things in the grey tone along with white, only my walls are beige. My floors are getting changed to a grey wood look ( I forgot to mention that) The only brown I have is the wood shelves and fireplace mantle (kitchen table has a grey tone). Once the floors are gone that element of "brown" will be gone. I will picture some examples of what I want to incorporate below. Floors... A leather chair I want to eventually replace with the chair I have..... Some type of small wood coffee table with some small round ottomans (at different heights)... Large plexiglass frames to replace large gold shelve against wall.. Not certain on area rugs or curtains and many other little extras. My home is still a work in progress and I am enjoying the process. Any tips, advice or kind words are appreciated.

(That is not at ALL how termites work. It's definitely how many termite guys work, though.)

The best you can do is examine the materials before you buy them and see if they look good enough for you.
