I ordered a four-seasons crypton fabric sofa. Had the sofa for three days. My husband was wearing black nylon golf pants and the dye transferred onto the sofa seat and the skirt (back of legs). It did not wash out. The store we bought the sofa from also tried to clean it, to no avail. This fabric may be great in many ways, but ironically Crypton does NOT warrant against dye transfer! I was not informed such a thing could happen (I’ve owned many sofas in my time). I am hoping because the sofa was brand new, the company will replace the cushion seat and skirt (slip covered sofa). I believe the fabric is called Mina Snow. I say, go with non Crypton fabric!

If you enter your query into a search engine, you'll find many web articles comparing your choices. I agree with your wife about no leather, with children and pets. Look for very heavy duty ratings (double rubs ratings), as many fabrics no longer wear as well as did those of years ago. If you have a great deal of natural light entering these areas, consider fade factors. Also important are the frame construction/ seating composition, if you are seeking longevity. Some people have been very happy with microfiber, although I cannot comment on its comfort/longevity.

I have written this before: I had my sectional recovered in Crypton. I don't really understand what Crypton is..some kind of treatment - but they don't seem to call it that - which is used on many different kinds of fabrics. I am unsure if the kind of fabric makes a difference on clean-ability. I bought mine from Greenhouse Fabrics; it's a blend of rayon and a small portion of poly with just a splash of nylon. This Crypton is made in the USA, has 33,000 rub rating and is cleaning code W, meaning it can be cleaned with water. From what I've seen some places, other fabric combos and cleaning codes (solvent clean) might have different results, but I am not sure. Lots of it comes from China, which I didn't want. So, within the first two weeks of getting it back from the upholsterer, I caught my toe on my coffee table and spilled a full glass of red wine on my new cream colored piece. OMG. I seldom drink red wine and have NEVER spilled a glass on the sectional in the 20 previous years, lol! I quickly googled what to do; it said to use a small amount of liquid dish soap in water, wipe off the spill, wipe again with clean, clear water until the soap was out. I did that and it was like magic. The red wine disappeared with nary a trace. About 2 weeks later, I noticed a spot I had missed on the front of the couch, so I did the same treatment, never expecting it to come out after that long, but it came right out. My grandson got some chocolate on it not long after and it wiped right up. I love this fabric because it's soft as anything; nothing like that hard, stiff feeling sunbrella fabric I've had on outdoor furniture. You would never guess this was a stain resistant fabric. Has anyone used just the regular Crypton fabric outside? I am aware that Crypton makes an outdoor line called "Crypton Outdoor", and that regular Crypton was not intended for outdoor use. However, I have two rolls of regular Crypton laying around and I was considering using it for a slip cover on a sofa that is out on my covered patio, and to redo cushions on a swing out there as well... So I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if so, how well did the fabric hold up? Some extra information that I think I might get questions about: I don't need "waterproof", or even strong water resistance. I live in Arizona, and with the patio being covered, the fabric is never completely exposed to the very rare rain. It will get a bit wet from side-spray or the sprinklers. But at the moment, both of these pieces of furniture just have plain fabric on them - not even "outdoor" fabric. The sofa fabric is a medium weight canvas-type woven fabric (from IKEA) and it has held up fine now for 5+ years or so (certainly in terms of fabric cohesion, not ripping or thinning, etc.). It is just stained from use and our dogs jumping up onto it. But we haven't had any issues with the cushions getting waterlogged or mildewed, etc. The swing cushions: fabric is totally destroyed after maybe 3 years? It was WAY too thin, and did NOT stand up well to our dogs jumping up on it. No, I am not interested in training my dogs to not jump on these pieces. They are not allowed on furniture inside, so the outside hangout time is their time to come cuddle with us on furniture that gets dusty and dirty anyway. So, in an outdoor, "performance" type of fabric, my priorities are mostly that the fabric stands up well to abrasion and to the AZ heat and UV exposure (even though the patio is covered, these pieces do get direct sunlight from very late afternoon to sunset when the sun sinks below the patio roofline). Stain resistance (muddy paws, spilled beverages, etc.) would be a major bonus. Water repellency would be great too, but not necessarily a must. That's why I was thinking that I could get away with just using the Crypton fabric I have on hand. It's tough and durable, and water-resistant. But, I do not know how the heat and sun would affect the fabric. I imagine that it wouldn't break down any more quickly than the fabrics already on these pieces... but with no experience, I could be way wrong about that.
