We really appreciate you all taking the time to send your suggestions our way!! Many ideas we haven't thought of but are definitely considering. I love the idea of replacing the cedar planks with siding and eliminating the side slope of the roof by adding siding! We agreed that many parts of this house are dated and were unsure as to how to update this 1970's gem!! Removing the hedges is a definite and happening today! Yay! Repainting the front door for the time being is on th list as well!! We want to tackle the pavers first and are having a difficult time choosing the paver color. Beverly... Chicago brick pavers were on the list and we also considered charcoal or trimming the chicago brick with charcoal. Would love suggestions on color !?!?!? Also, we live in Florida... Not sure if that makes a difference.

I missed KentC's post, but agree with it, too. Samarnn, it is taking my drawing too literally as it's not a suggestion of color or texture. It is predominantly a scheme of arranging, and to some degree size, although that comes with some pretty broad leeway. Color, texture, plant personality & other details are characteristics that will be products of whatever plants the owner chooses. I'm just trying to get them in the ball park. (... A ball park that is different than the de facto standard skinny evergreens at house corners connected by a hedge across the front.) I think you bring up a good point, though .... that having everything be fine textured is NOT an ideal. Some boldness & courseness as part of the scheme is a good thing and adds interest.

Maybe a outdoor rug and some metal art on the back wall. Paint a turquoise blue or some brighter color. Or a wreath even if you like them. I would definitely paint the entryway white or some other much lighter color to brighten it up. A colorful pot with dried flowers or pine cutting for fall/winter. You can paint a red clay pot with any acylic indoor or outdoor paint. It weather's off a bit over time and looks "rustic".

Perhaps a shade sail to extend the patio? Then you might be able to get a large potted plant to survive. Maybe a large planter under the laundry room (?) windows. Use more of the cedar as an accent/trellis.
