I love mixing metals. However, I think I remember reading on here that is best to not mix within elements. So all faucets should be the same metal but cabinet hardware (light fixtures, etc) could be a different metal. I am no designer so take my words with a grain of salt :-) By the way, is there a reason you don't want all the faucets to be brass or chrome?

It sounds like you want to have a custom shower system with both a hand shower and a showerhead. This is very do-able. Typically I would recommend you stick with the same brand, mainly because then you know the finish will match perfectly. Especially with finishes in the oil rubbed bronze category, you will find great differences between various manufacturers and it might look strange if the finish is not exactly the same. In the case of chrome finish, you may find there is almost no difference between companies. In that case there is no reason you couldn't have a hand shower made by one company, and a showerhead made by the other. It's a pretty good match considering your restrictions. Both have a small flair at the base and straight thin handles. The shower handle is less substantial than the Weymouth, which I did like. But I have the thin straight handle on my kitchen faucet and like it. When I remodeled my guest bath, I bought the quality I wanted first and tried to find some common design elements between everything.

The text disappeared... Here again: My main shower is old and in need of updating. The shower is a single handle valve. The gold finish plate over the valve has a SA stamped on it which apparently stands for American Standard. At any rate, the valve works fine but I was wondering about update or upgrade options. Without tearing into the wall can I find the correct updated trim packages available today? I suppose I would have to tear into the wall to replace the valve? The existing main bath is entirely builders grade fixtures and I would like to upgrade but dont want to tear-out. What to do?
