What do you dehydrate
Comments (21)Redhaven is sure easy to can. It's a freestone, and there's none of that gouging out the red center where the stone was because when they cook, the red disappears. The flavor is just outstanding. Sure makes those canned peaches you get in the store pale by comparison. They are so slimy and have so few actual peaches in the can. I add a little salt and a little vinegar (you don't taste it and it helps preserve the color till you can get them cooked) to the water I slice the peaches into, sweeten them only a little, heat them, and then pack them in the jars. I don't waste space with lots of syrup. We've opened probably five jars since then, divided the contents amongst the three of us, and have enjoyed them immensely. The previous harvest, which was like three years ago, I prepared them the same way, but froze them. They froze really well and held their color after they were thawed, but I didn't have room in the freezer this time. If you don't have a Redhaven in your yard, Livesay's Orchard has that variety, among others, every year....See MoreWhat Do You Put in Your China Cabinet, Other Than China?
Comments (14)We used the top half of the china cabinet I inherited in the library of our former house. I had a plain box base made to hold it, stained it to the same color, and put it behind the small end of an L-shaped sofa, because with its own base, it was too tall to fit in our 8' rooms. It actually started life as a secretary-bookcase, but my great-grandfather, who bought it at auction, only bought the top half, and had a nice but distinctly inferior bottom made for it then. I've tried to find the other half, but with no success. Sigh. So much for its potential value. But I digress ... I put a few groups of nice old books, a couple of pewter pitchers, a plate or two, and some other attractive things in it. I also lined the back wall with a piece of cream jacquard fabric to lighten the whole business. Not sure how well you can see, but here it was: It was traditional in old houses to line the doors of large secretary-bookcases like this one with gathered green cloth to protect the books from sunlight, so you'd be in good company if you decided to put fabric in yours....See MoreHow much water do you drink per day?
Comments (26)Thanks to you rhizo, I have made a conscious effort to brink actual water!.I had my coffee as usual (decaf) but made sure to measure out 4 oz of water for my supplements. Coffee is considered half. So, that is one glass. The I had a cup of tea mid morning. With lunch I had a glass of water. I never do this! I'm going to do a half hour on my lifecycle, and will bring down a glass of water. From what my eye doctor has told me (I have dry eyes) you are suppose to drink the after gradually. It needs to have a chance to absorb, so downing it in a hurry really doesn't produce the desired effect. i still don't understand how people drink 8 glasses a day....See MoreHow much water do you drink a day?

" You can DIE from drinking too much water. It has happened to people. Too much water throws the electrolyte balance off. Posted by loggerbaby: "i read somewhere you can literally drown yourself by drinking too much water." No. No, you cannot "drown" by drinking too much water. There is no way to consume so much water that your lungs fill up with water. The body does not work that way. If someone dies because their lungs are filled with fluid, it is solely due to a bacterial infection of the lungs, like pneumonia or some other malady - not because they drank a lot of water. ----------- Drinking more water than your body needs won't make your hair shiny like so many people think. Nor will it make your skin look young and your nails grow faster. It won't help you lose weight or get smarter. One should listen to their body's cues. Drink water when you are thirsty. Drink water shortly before any strenuous activity like swimming or Yoga where you know you will be sweating to keep the body cool. That water needs to be replaced. Drinking water that has caffeine added to it (iced tea/coffee) in an attempt to rehydrate, sort of defeats the purpose. Caffeine is a diuretic and causes the body to rid itself of the water and actually can cause dehydration no matter how many gallons of ice tea are drank. This is the same reason that a person can die of thirst on a life raft in the middle of the ocean. People scratch their heads and wonder in amazement how someone could die of thirst in the middle of the ocean. >>Its because the ocean is salty.I can't tell you how many times I've seen people dump salt on their food because in their mind, they think that since the salt causes them to drink more water, that they are "doing the body good". ------------ A guy in my neighborhood died from drinking too much water. Here is a fairly recent news story about the woman who drank too much water in a contest and died immediately afterward. The radio station got sued because the station KNEW that the stunt was dangerous. A woman who identified herself as a nurse called in live, on the show and said the contest should stop because someone could die. The DJ laughed and hung up on her.
