Now that I looked at the J&P website I should ask, do you have Our Lady of Guadalupe? Ask around but here on the east coast it is a low growing, very prolific bloomer, two-toned pink with a silvery sheen. I have no idea about its size in CA. Sorry for the typo abut Grussy it isn't Grus but Gruss an Aachen (greeting from Aachen). Cass recommended me a wonderful mini, Gentle Maid as front of the bed rose I still have it and it does very well. I got it from Pickering, I don't know who else has it. Its a very double, disease resistant Harkness rose. It has never reached 2' - is it too small/low? There are many more that you may like, I give you the link to the page, maybe you find something you like. You have a lot of white by mow, so here are some other pastels (and not pastels but those can be disregarded). Cafe Ole is absolutely stunning! I had one own root in a pot but during our drought I lost it. I try to remember to order it grafted, it must be stronger. Very fragrant indeed. Since it is a R. I looked at the old thread - I did get almost everything on my original list, except the heliotrope. I had listed out all my existing plants in the rear beds by color, and realized that I had more lilac/lavender than anything else, so maybe adding another wasn't such a good idea, lol. Also, I think I've mentioned that dd talked me into getting a bunch more annuals, mostly in hot colors. And since we have extras from her flower party, I should have a good start on filling up the new border along the fence line that we started yesterday. It will have some dahlias (from seed), asters, assorted sunflowers, zinnias (I forget the name, but magenta-ish), and nasturtiums. CMK - That sounds like a price per yard, not cu.ft! We have similar pricing around here - it gets pricey. Dh I think overestimated how much we need - I'm slowing working down our big mountain in the driveway. (Ok, with help from dh and the kids - but I'm pretty sure I've done more than the rest combined, lol.) So, yeah, we spent more on compost than on all of the plantings this year, which drives me bonkers. And yesterday, as dh and I were walking around the yard, we decided that we really want to do something with the shady side yard that is scattered bits of grass with lots of dirt in between. Not sure if we will get started on that this year - but if I have enough compost left over, maybe I'll start amending for a new shade bed. I'm threatening to do nothing but pachysandra so I don't have to deal with it (it's the side of the house I rarely go to, though I suppose if it were nicer I might not avoid it as much!) As far as major projects, we are pretty well on track. We also enlarged the front bed and added as much compost as we dared without raising the grade too high. I've amended all of the new veggie boxes, and started planting them with early crops. I also planted my fruit trees. We also had our first campfire of the season, with all the dropped limbs from over the winter, as well as the dried-out remains of our Christmas tree. (That flared up pretty high for a few minutes!) Now I just have to figure out what to do with all of this compost I still have - and finish re-organizing my main flower borders.

Let me urge you to order a native evergreen Georgia plant from Plant Delights that I know you will love and is perfect for your situation. It is the Georgia Savory (Clinopodium georgianum coll.) It was new to me two years ago and the little rooted cutting I planted in hot sun and drought is now a circular 24" clump of dense growth that inhibits weeds. The foliage resembles Rosemary and the fall/winter light lavender blossoms also look like Rosemary blooms. It grows about 8"-12" high and then the outer branches lie down and new growth comes from the middle of the plant. So, as it matures it really is only about 7" tall. I would guess that in time it self roots and continues spreading although it would be easy to control. I cannot rave enough about this savory for heat, blinding sun and adverse conditions. Anyone trying to hold a sunny slope should plant this one. I found cuttings easy to root just tucked in a pot of soil, left in the sun and kept moist. Hopefully you will order one. It's a winner!
