Practigal - We are in San Diego. Water is at a premium and I have a ton of grass. I'm ok with the water bill but it is tough to keep green watering 2 days a week. BTW - I really like the covered entry also. Most examples in the neighborhood no longer exist because they either removed it to pop out the corner or they hit the brace with their car and had to remove it. Justerrilynn - I did mean the front door. Our neighborhood has quite a few examples of our similar home. One neighbor has the door right where you have it. Here are a few examples. Hope they don't mind me posting streetview photos. These are all homes built by the same designer in the 50's. The above home was the same as ours, flipped. I love the huge porch but, in person, the thing that really makes it look nice is the roof - heavy tile. Above are my across the street neighbors. House on the left is exactly like ours, just flipped. Both houses had the inset door and popped them out many years ago.

You're right Kevin. Also, I was paying some attention to the other old homes in the area and I noticed a few other colonials with the same verticak detail, and one house with the same door and tiny window set up...go figure, the house was all white. The more I think about it, I will not include the trim around the small vertical windows in the trim color. I will keep them the same color as whatever the house will be painted. I think it will be less distracting.

This is Agreeable Gray, Extra White and Gauntlet Gray. I actually think it would be a mistake to go too much gray on the body. You will already have a gray roof. Canvas Tan is a little grayer than Patience. I would not use those garage doors shown above. They are a modern design and your house is closer to traditional. I also think the wood grain and side windows when combined with stone would look too busy. I hope one of the professionals will speak to the door as I am just a person like you. What is the name of your HOA? Stay away from Unique Gray. It is lilac color.

My house is unique in that the previous owner did an addition and only installed half vinyl siding. I now have all white, half asbestos siding and half white vinyl, so I would guess the house pretty much has to stay white as the only thing I can paint is the asbestos siding and trim. I need some help breaking up the white with some color, maybe the trim? The vinyl is the 3rd floor and the asbestos is 1 and 2. The brick columns are like a light beige off-white... I don't have the cash to reside it right now, so hoping paint can help give it more curb appeal. The house is ocean front so maybe a coastal blue color trim? Any suggestions / guidance appreciated.
