Paint for south and west facing bedroom

I have developed paint paralysis. Every time I pick what I think iooks good in the Benjamin Moore store, I buy a sample jar, paint it on my bedroom wall & it looks totally different! At $6 a sample, I don't know what to do anymore! I don't want to keep spending money on paint samples to have nothing at the end! I personally think the samples should be 2 oz & $2 each, but I suppose I'm not as wealthy as the Benjamin Moore executives think I am, or should be.

I'd like a soft light earthy green color with no hint of mint or pea soup, or a light (LRV 50-60) taupey color. In theory looking at the paint chip samples or Ben Moore booklets, but not on my walls, I've liked fernwood green, pashmina, white opulence, calm, balboa mist, cotswold, swiss coffee & cloud cover. I just can't find a color that looks good on my walls & I'm thinking about painting over the sample blotches with the original yellowish color that I hate. Any ideas of colors for me to try?

Are you working with your fabrics and textiles to determine the best color?

We can make better suggestions if you tell us what you didn't like about the colors you tried. Too light, too dark, too yellow, too whatever. Greens are going to lean either blue or yellow (minty or pea soupy) so you need choose a direction. Or do you want a gray-green or green-beige? If you're trying to match something or have an inspiration picture, please post it.

Hmmm, I dunno, but I bet it would be really pretty if they did. We used it originally in a guest bedroom and found it so calming a easy to be in, we used it in our master too. I didn't tint the white for either ceiling because I really like the crisp look of white with blue. In our guest bath, we used SW Tradewind. That too is a calming color but it leans towards the aqua side of the spectrum. I used French Gray for the ceiling.

Thank you. ljangell44: I actually tried to pick up a paint chip for agreeable gray (for another room) at SW when I was there, they were all out...popular color!! On my to do list to get back there. Interesting, I had never considered gray for the room, but I think it may compliment the yellow and not close in the room...will check it out. Thanks! BlueberryBundtcake: Tired of it and want a change. Funny, I always loved the warmth of it, but now after some renovations over the years all of the stain on various doors and windows do not match and it bugs me. Understood that it will be difficult to change!

I have no inspiration, per se, just had a maple (clear matte sealant) put in, so wanted to update the yellow wall color while the room is completely empty. I think I'd prefer going toward green yellow. I really don't like mint! But, maybe I need the blue to tone down my sun exposures?

I'm thinking I like Briarwood (on paper) for the taupey color, or something like that, but lighter?

cotswold = too reddish

swiss coffee = too yellow

cloud color = violet undertone

I would lean towards liking a yellow green, vs a blue green. I do like chartreuse in v small doses.

You can always ask to have Briarwood cut to 25%. I don't know if 50% would be light enough. But I have no idea what that will look like.

Nature's Essentials is a medium greige that looks a little green in south and west exposures. Sea Wind is lighter than the above and also has a touch of green. November Rain and Old Prairie are subtle light greens. Gray Mist and Gray Owl are popular neutrals with a green undertone.

Edgecomb Gray is greige without any green - a very popular neutral - maybe a good fall back if you can't get the green you want.

A blue like Woodlawn Blue works with South and West light.
