Master Bedroom Paint Help: Slanted Walls, East and West Facing Windows
Picking paint color is proving stressful!!
The room has lower ceilings as it is a shed dormer. The room itself also has two dormers that face west and the west wall of the room with the dormers is slanted. The dormers each have a vaulted ceiling higher than the room’s ceiling. Currently, the slanted wall is painted white and is textured like the ceiling.
Should the slanted wall be smooth and painted the same colors as the walls?
The east facing windows (morning sun) are smaller than the west facing windows in the dormers.
Just stripped wallpaper from master bedroom. Will be pulling up carpet and installing hardwood flooring. Furniture in room is french country in a fruitwood stain (“brown stuff”, I know!! But I do not have the heart nor inclination to paint it ). Will be painting woodwork/trim to white or offwhite. Have slate blue bedding and pale yellow bedding. Have an 8 x 10 area rug under bed that is cream, slate with hints of dandelion yellow. Have 2 blue/white ginger jar lamps.
Was considering pale buttercream wall color. Is that too warm? My track record for paint choices has not been good! What wall colors might be good to allow to change between slate blue and pale yellow bedding options?

Comments (10)To answer your direct questions: Put the darker color behind the bed headboard and then decide if you want one accent wall (usually a lot of contrast) or if you want to have two walls each color. The Santorini Blue is not baby blue, but I would put a color swatch in your room to see how it looks in different light if you decide to go in that direction. Glass Slipper is more ice blue than baby blue. I LOVE the Santorini blue, but thought it was too dark to have on all four walls. Your bedding is very neutral and very pretty. When I look at it I think "irredesence" or opal. Everyone does this differently, but I tend to decide what I want a room to FEEL like and then go from there. For our bedroom I thought "sleeping in the clouds". Hence, I have blues, whites, creams and beige. For our bathroom I wanted "beach spa". I also suggest you look through the bathroom pictures on the bathroom forum. I found several inspirational rooms that worked with the tile and cabinets we had. I think one of the reasons you are struggling is that you are working with "what matches" instead of what look do I love. Love something, make it work in your room. Having said that, I think your tile would work well with blues, tans or many of the greiges. Whatever you decide, you are likely going to need an accent color since your bedding has wonderful texture, but only one color. Again, look at the bathroom forums pictures and here in gallary under "bathrooms". Which rooms catch your breadth or you say to yourself, "I want that feeling". Comments (5)I have untinted SW paint in my basement from the last 40% off sale because I hadn't chosen colors yet but I'm willing to consider having it tinted to a competitor's color(s). How I want the rooms to feel is a hard question. I guess I'm too analytical. Comfortable and livable -- somewhere between jarring/pay-attention-to-me and boring/bland? Guest room is rarely used, just the occasional overnight by a traveling family member. It might get more use in a few years if my kids bring friends home from college but I doubt they'll care as long as you feed them. :) Tibbrix, I'll definitely check out the other blues you suggested. 4 years agoHawthorne Yellow was actually the first yellow I considered. I also checked the historic BM colors. Hawthorne is beautiful. Do you have dark wood furniture in your guest room? I am also concerned about the slanted walls. I am not sure if the warm yellows will close the room in with so much going on with all the angles. I think right now the existing rug color is unfortunately throwing off the light reflection in the room. Once that is removed, and the wood floor is in...hope it will pull together.
Here’s the paint squares...color of comforter is not coming through correctly in photo. New lampshade🤣did not remove plastic yet.
