Can't speak to the humidity but my mom has had woven wood blinds in her casual eating area for over 30 years. This year during a reno she had to have them restrung but the actual blinds are good as new. They are very expensive--but she is getting her monies worth!! Hers are verticals. I had a woven woods roll up shade in my basement family room when we arrived. It was great for insulation against a picture window in a walk out basement..but the pull cord broke. It was maybe 20 yrs old--just guessing.

I just reread the original post. You may want to see an actual shade with the type of wood you are considering. Depending on the thickness and how they rise, they will hang differently. Notice lkplatow's stack behind the hanging shade. Because my HD's have the privacy liner, the stacking depth is thicker and they do NOT look like a valance at the top when they are fully raised. Also, I chose a sort of round wood, not flat so it is thicker. If you notice in most catalogs and magazines, they show woven woods lowered half way down the window. They usually don't show them all the way up b/c they don't look that great. Also, if you mount them 6" above the window, because of the way they stack, when you raise them they might get caught on the top molding.

I couldn't find anything in a google search with those keywords, and I have never heard of LaFayette shades. However, I sell similar shades and even with a healthy markup that sounds pricey for 2 shades, even one that large. Also, does the price include installation? You will always pay more when purchasing through a brick and mortar store, due to their overhead. Have you tried Blinds to Go or a similar online site?

I need to see the space and honestly also some idea of the purpose of the blinds . I would not do anymore wood but I need to see the space. I arely like blinds that block views so I use solar shades for heat and UV control they allow you to keep the view and give you daytime privacy but I usually pair them with drapes for night time privacy if that is an issue. So a bit mor einfo along with pictures please.
