Oh, Glenda. I read your title and thought typo, that you meant 'too' sound, too soundly which is my problem. I sleep like a little kid - through just about anything.

We both fall asleep to the bedroom TV. Yes, I know it has a timer which neither of us bother with. I will hear DH begin to snore before I fall asleep without the TV. He will wake enough to turn it off sometime during the night. If alone, I would wake up to the same channel playing in the morning.

We're becoming implanted in our routine as we age. A room where the window can be opened, TV on - and we're comfortable and sleeping well.

I listen to podcasts as I fall asleep. I rarely hear the end of them! One time I was listening to an audio book. I heard the first chapter and when I woke up in the morning it was on chapter 28.

When I had kids in the house I would use a noise machine on the rain setting. I'm a very light sleeper so the one with thunder sounds would keep me awake. I quit using it after a while because sometimes it would sound like voices and creep me out.

As a child, I liked to sleep with the sound of an electric fan because it was way too quiet on the farm, and the sounds I did hear, coyotes and owls, were too scary.

I've always had very bad tinnitus, and that can make going to sleep difficult if the room is too quiet. Lately it has not kept me awake, however.

I have a pink noise machine but usually fall asleep with the TV on. I tend to put on a show that I like but have seen already so I am not tempted to stay up and watch it. Sometimes I will put it on a YouTube video of rain sounds or crackling fireplace. Sometimes soft christmas music. Sometimes SO will still be watching the news in bed while I fall asleep. I could sleep in silence but do not need it for sleep.

Leo likes to sleep in his crate so we put on one of those "music for dogs" YouTube videos for him in the living room where his crate is.

I need dead silence. And a room that's so dark I can't see my hand in front of my face.

We have the TV on at night. DH puts it on a timer. Most of the time I'm still awake when the TV turns off so I have an app on my phone that I use. I use the rain sound. stays on for 1 hr. 15 min. then stops. I've had many, many nights that I turn the rain on 3 times before I finally drift off.

I usually listen to books or podcasts while I fall asleep, but unlike dedtired, I put a timer on mine to turn off after 30 minutes (or the end of a chapter, or something). In the morning, I roll it back to the last thing I remember.

I can fall asleep to most sound, even DH's snoring. But a pouring rain has wanting to get up and check the gutters and basement.

I prefer the fan going. Perfect white noise and moving air. I don't sleep well in still air.

Like Dedtired I listen to podcasts as I'm falling asleep. I set the timer on my podcast player to shut off after 20 minutes. I usually don't make it past 10 minutes before I'm asleep.

I’m with Deb. Total silence and pitch dark is my preference.

i use the 'white noise' app. i fall asleep to 'space station', straight white noise, no pitch changes.

i tried - ocean, train, bus-has people talkin in background, very weird and not helpful at all, storms etc. but found that i sleep best with just white noise, out in about 10 mins.

i can fall asleep listening to podcast but then the voices wake me up!

I used the 60 minute timer on the radio, and have it set to the local classical music station. However, I have to turn it off if they are playing one of those discordant, "avant-garde" type pieces.

Nothing beats the sound and sensation of a fan!

I can't listen to music when I'm trying to fall asleep as it stirs me emotionally. I end up looking for TV shows that have lots of narration and no sirens. Sometimes I can find Bob Ross painting with his soothing voice and no ads. Other times I can find history lectures which will also work if the subject is fairly dull. If it's too interesting though, it doesn't work. Sometimes nothing helps. But what doesn't work is if I forget to set the sleep timer and the TV is on all night...it disturbs my sleep all night long but not enough to wake me up enough for me to turn the darn thing off. I just wake up feeling more tired than when I went to bed.

I don't know why, but once in awhile I can get a good long nap in the pm....and I wake up from that feeling more refreshed than I do after a night's sleep.

Annie, if you find Bob Ross' voice helpful you might want to check out ASMR videos on YouTube. Look for soft-spoken ones.

I looked and the ASMR ones I found are all weird noises and tapping sounds that I found quite annoying....unless I'm not looking at the right ones.

AMSR takes many forms, and I agree, Annie--weird noises, tapping sounds, and even whispers do not appeal to me. Here are three (of many) that I've used at times to help me nap in the afternoon. The shortest is 17 minutes, and the longest over an hour. I always use headphones. In addition, ASMR Joni's soft-spoken videos, with her slight Hispanic accent, are often good.

Both the included free streaming channels on my LG smart tv, and the free streams on the Roku channel, have Bob Ross channels - which I assume are just Bob Ross 24/7.

Annie - before I discovered podcasts I would watch semi boring TV shows to fall asleep to.

Now I listen to semi boring podcasts.

I use small very soft earbuds to listen. I'm a side sleeper and they don't bother me when I sleep.

I love sleeping to the city sounds that come through my apartment window. I spent 2020 living in a house in the middle of a woods and found myself kept awake by the sounds of the creaking of the house, scrabbling animals on the roof (or were they in the attic?) and the general unease of wondering who/what might be lurking in the woods. (I lay awake a lot of nights thinking about Truman Capote's In Cold Blood.) When visiting my brother in Florida, my ears actually buzz from the silence.

I live at the end of a dead end road in the forest, so it’s very quiet. I like all the windows open if the temp isn’t too cold outside - so usually May-October they are all open, so it”s like sleeping on a screened porch. No window coverings at all-I can sleep even when the sun rises. The only thing that really would keep me awake is hearing barking dogs. Even if off in the distance, I find it so annoying that people don’t quiet their dogs that it keeps me from sleeping. But for the last 5 or 6 years no barking dogs within hearing distance. Yay!

I sleep with the TV on. It is a night light so I don't trip on a cat if I have to get up, and I have tinnitus, which seems to bother me more some times than others, and I usually have some kind of sound going all the time. I watch TV until I fall asleep....the sound doesn't bother me. I fall asleep quickly and wake up just as quickly.

I'm surprised that so many here have a TV in the bedroom. Sleep clinics specify, "No televisions," and ban use any blue light electronics (like computers) within 30 minutes of bedtime. They recommend a completely dark room, including blocking light from a clock. Repetitive sound machines get an OK.

I recently had to hunt to find a replacement night light for our bathroom that is only ONE LUMEN. It doesn't affect dark adapted vision. (I see it's called a 'guide light', not a 'night light'.)

One of our tenants works nights. He has blackout shades on the windows and runs a box fan in his bedroom.

Lol yes Bob Ross. I always liked to watch his show but he put me to sleep as soon as he started. I prefer to sleep in the sound of silence.

Prime has a great assortment of audio books you can play free with an Amazon subscription . i stopped Netflix but tried many that put me to sleep.

the Cpap i tried was great for a consistent sound.. i wish it worked on my sleep apnea that's killing me. i sleep but get nonrrst.
