Comments (12)Our peepers are screaming their fool hearts out. And we have several ponds and a creek within hearing distance to our house. I was surprised that Steve's hearing loss is significant enough that he can't hear them. As for other spring sounds, most are avian... the robins, the sandhills, the other returning birds... Yesterday it got up to 75 and I was out in my yard all day and noticed other distinctive "spring" sounds. The girls next door had their Barbie sports car out and I immediately recognized its distinctive whine as they cruised the sidewalks... then all the kids got together and opened a lemonade, jelly bean and popcorn stand. Ten boisterous kids and one stand. Their marketing schemes tickled me... they rode their bikes in formation throughout the neighborhood screaming "Lemonade! (Their address)!" They flagged down motorists and passing pedestrians. They hatched a bicycle delivery scheme that ended badly because none of them can ride one-handed very well. I bought lots of lemonade... but avoided the jelly beans and popcorn because the kids chose to display them in bowls set on the ground and not only did I see several dogs helping themselves to them, but they poured lemonade over the bowls and they were a soupy mess by the end of the day. Ah! Spring!...See MoreChristmas Poem Spinoff
Comments (3)Thanks so much! I have thoroughly enjoyed your Christmas Gardening Poem. I visit here every once in awhile, just hoping that I can see some creating writing and inspirations. Hopefully, others will follow... I don't think I need to say anything more abot that! We all know what happened to this forum....See MoreDo you have plans for New Years Day/Eve?
Comments (25)I work New Year's Eve and day, double time pay. Yeah!! In fact, I went through about half the year's schedule for 2008 and signed up to work every holiday and will finish once my last week of leave is approved. New Year's eve we are having a little "party" at work, basically eating chili and finger foods. I've never gone out for New Year's Eve, ever. When I was growing up we always had whole crab on New Year's day and stayed up till midnight the night before watching Dick Clark. Is he even doing it his show this year?...See MoreWhat to do with a Meyer lemon
Comments (9)I am "retired"; but I have never worked harder in my life. Of course we have workers who do most of the heavy lifting; I do things like planting, pruning, grafting, planning.... On my lemon farms I mostly just do supervision and ideas. One of our most important practices... one which everyone should practice if possible... is that someone looks at every tree every day; his supervisor looks at every tree every week; and his supervisor (often John) looks at every tree once a month. That practice means, if we have a problem it is dealt with immediately; we don't wake up one morning and find that we have some uncontrollable plague....See Morenicole___
