Sebright Gardens Order

Considering that it is almost July, I did not expect much from a last-minute hosta order. However, that is some nice root structure there. Shipping was $20 to Chicago area, but will order from them again. Anything out of the ordinary I need to know about these varieties before I plant?

Beautiful pictures f-f, and congratulations on your anniversary. What a lovely way to spend a day! It really does make a huge statement when you see three or more of the same variety planted together. Plum Royale and Spellbound are my two best performers, they always look beautiful. That's the greenhouse part of the sales area. Surplus is behind and in back. They also have another sales area with various other types of plants, such as some sedums, shrubs, heuchera etc. It's a very large place. I think they have over 600 varieties of hosta in their catalog this year, and most if not all are also available for purchase at the nursery. They sell over 100 varieties of ferns plus many epimedium. Most of the ferns are also available on site as well. They also have a ton of the newer varieties of hosta in another greenhouse that they'll be adding to their sales area every year. They get the tc from various sources, but Kirk shared with me that it's their policy not to sell them until they reach a certain size. Usually around gallon size or slightly under. Mail order or online order organic garden soil???

Try a search for "CO oraganic soil" and also Craigs List which currently has about 5 free offers. For free you could rent a truck at $19 and come out well on the cost side. The other option is to fill those planters with leaves, grasses, newspaper and start again for next spring. Perhaps take the plants you have now and put them in pots for this year, if it is early for some cover them with milk bottles or large baggies with holes. We still have 3 weeks for planting most of our veggies. Gardening takes time, we all need the patience for nature to take it's course. Even planning ahead can find nature changing it's direction. If I could have my whole yard done this year it would be wonderful, but reality is this won't happen.....so I remind myself that patience is at the head of the list. Link below is a nursery that carries organic. Also try calling every nursery around...takes time, but can be worth it. There are a number of nurseries listed in RMG. I'm in a Cleveland suburb and order from Sebright all the time. Their orders are always packed very well and the root systems are very healthy. In 2020, their package arrived 4 days after the expected delivery--not their fault it was a shipper error, but still the plants were in great shape. I can't grow Rhino Hide, maybe I will try again in a pot. Lakeside Prophecy and Lakeside Prophecy Fulfilled grow in my bed which gets some afternoon sun. I got both of mine from Sebright.

Lindalana, no mention of what varieties you grabbed? =) I kept watching as all of my favorite order-houses were closing one by one and it is nice to find a new one.

Lol, I am big fan of Lakeside hostas so I got second LS Breaking news, LS Jazzy Jane, LS Masterpiece new to me and replacement of LS Love affair which did not make recent move well.

I also lost my large Katie and Jason, got Robert Frost because the one I got way earlier somewhere else proved to be First frost.

Then I got second Lionheart because first one deteriorated in the pot to smaller size...

Pretty much trying to replace what did not survive the move...

I like Lakeside hostas too but some have died in my yard but I got them locally or from a guy online, Lakeside Shoremaster has dwindled each year, I started with 4 crowns and now have maybe 2 small ones. I am thinking of moving it to see if that changes anything. Just about anything I have ordered in the past 5 years from Sebright has grown well so I am definitely a fan of that nursery and it's absolutely superb packing and plants.
