Where are you storing paper towel...
Comments (12)We always had ours on a horizontal hanger - for a long time it was magnetic on the side of the fridge. We did NOT think we liked the countertop vertical kind and didn't think they would work to let you just have one towel at a time. But in our nice new kitchen, the fridge side is no longer an option and we didn't want to drill into the underside of our nice new cabs (and get too close to the undercab lights). So we decided to try the on counter type. Got a nice little stainless looking one from Lowe's that has some rubber comb mechanism that lets only one towel off at a time but is still easy enough to pull more if you want them. We LOVE it! It's portable. I can take it to the table or wherever I need it. It's tucked in a corner near the sink - looks fine. And I can change the roll without unscrewing anything. Many of the countertop ones I tried, you had to unscrew a finial that was a pain to get on and off (would have driven me crazy, so check that out). Anyway, I highly recommend the on counter type now. And soonermagic, good for you for going green. We are pretty earth conscious but on the paper towel front, we're the worst. Is a flour cloth just a thin rag? And is the miracle cloth a microfiber thing?...See Moreplugmold on island under countertop
Comments (2)What does your island look like? All 1 level so you want the plugmold at about waist level below counter along work aisle? On ends? I have a 2 level island with breakfast bar, put plugmold on lower level work area under the overhang from upper counter. Sorry, old picture and not full length, I was trying to show the trim my cousin had made to cover backs of the taller end cabinets. But this is the least-cluttered this countertop has been since! Of course, I just put in regular big-box store plugmold like I'd had in electronics labs in Navy - this was before I found GW and became TKO!...See MoreWhere can I put the lightswitches?
Comments (3)I'll challenge an assumption or two here... Why do they "need" to be "pretty close to the sink"? How about ganging them with the light switch(es) by the door? I frankly find it a pain to run all over the kitchen to turn on and off the lights. It can be nice to have them all in one place. I note that there are standard switches available that have two or three switches on a single yoke. This can be of use to reduce visual clutter by the door. You could also put two switches in a single gang in your backsplash near the sink, to minimize the impact on the backsplash. You can also get electronic (dimming) controls that can control several lights from a single gang box. I have linked to one such, from the Insteon product line. You could have one of these by the door, and one near the sink, both controlling some or all of the same lights. Or you could have a single controller at the door, and leave your backsplash clear. (I note that you do need a separate dimmer for each light. Each controller has one dimmer built into it. You could put additional dimmers in a closet or pantry. Or you could simply gang all the dimmers at the door.) Here is a link that might be useful: Insteon keypad controller...See MorePlugmold - under kitchen cabinets - how to get wire through wall?
Comments (1)All concealed permanent wiring must use an approved method. For most residential use this is NM type cable. Look up 'wiremold' for the boxes and fittings for plugmold also....See MoreCandace
