Queen of the Night, from last night
Comments (8)The exact name of the plant is Epiphyllum oxypetalum. It is extremely easy to grow, fairly drought tolerant, and grows prolifically once it gets started. We have to prune it so much that we end up throwing away half the plant because we have no more room. They are easy to root, and so I have rooted a lot of cuttings and given them away. The fragrance they produce is overwhelming, but the flowers only last one night, and are over by morning. Still, they put out quite a few flowers at a time and more buds will be opening tonight. I have a lot of other epiphyllum, but they do not get this large. Birds like to perch on top of this plant, and I can see the birds from my living room by looking through the window at the top of my door. The plant also requires a lot of staking. Comments (3)RedSun is right, soil temperature is important - you'll want to wait until the soil is 60F. Warm weather plants will just sit there and sulk until the soil warms to their liking. If the tomatoes are becoming pot-bound, them move them up to a larger container where they'll be more comfortable while waiting for the soil to warm up....See MoreAnyone watch AGT last night?
Comments (22)I had to go to the AGT website to read Grace's 'story', as I didn't remember hearing or seeing it at all. Apparently she's quite the musical prodigy. But perhaps she would come across a little better when she gets a little older and her voice has a chance to develop more. I always try to imagine myself in one of the judges' seats (yes, pompous, I know), and 'judge' by the quality of the performance, not by my personal likes or dislikes. That's harder to do then one would think! My personal tastes always win out! And that's why I wasn't bothered in the least by the 'glitzy suit' performer being sent home. The background stories are influential, too, Although sometimes I think they dramatize and overplay the sob stories more than they should. But you can't help but admire someone who's pulled themselves up by their boot straps, and is doing their best to have a positive influence on life. They deserve the chance. The talent on this show seems to get better every year! I'd be willing to bet a dollar to a hole in a donut that a number of the contestants will be discovered and move on to bigger and better things, regardless of how they finish up here. Comments (6)I must have fallen asleep. I spent the day shopping for & planting 14 one gallon containers of perennials. I had to go play the 9 year old opera singer. She is GOOD! BLEW ME AWAY! And adorable! I'm looking forward to Simon wearing a rainbow glitter T-shirt! ♥ The father who lost his wife, made me tear up...but don't think he'll go very far. The red and black clad dancers were a Vegas Show...I'd pay to see that again....and again..... I liked the comedian.....8 years of performing was good prep for AGT, THIS will get him noticed, hopefully a bigger paycheck when he does BIGGER shows....See MoreRusty
