Hi there, I know this is a pretty old thread, but I'm hoping some of the experts here can help me. I have the same issue as the one described by scottinthebox (branches dropping off my otherwise healthy Jade). I'm almost certain too much watering is not the issue because (*ahem*) I'm not the most reliable when it comes to watering my plants. I usually go at least 1-2 weeks before watering my jade plant. Not sure if that can still be considered too much for these plants, but the soil is always bone dry before I water. I've had leaves fall off regularly in the past (I think that is normal?) but this is the first time entire branches fall off (3 or 4 so far in the last 2 weeks.) I'm adding some pics for reference of the latest branch that fell today. Thanks.

its lacking sufficient light.. its stretching.. and the only time mine lost leaves.. was due to over watering ... i would root a few pieces... just in case.. thats some scaffolding you got going there.. ken

It sounds like you are definitely overwatering! First I wouldn't of used the peat because it's been known to retain moisture, but you only added a little bit so it's probably ok..Second you watered 3 to 4 cups of water? That's a lot of water for a new cutting. When I root, I usually wet the medium (soil mix) first and get it good and saturated. I then pack the soil so it's condensed and tight. I then make a hole big enough for the cutting, and then gently set it inside so that the rooting hormone doesn't wipe off. (Some people use perlite completely around the cutting so that it's nice and airy in there, which sounds like a good idea too)After setting it inside the soil pack/firm the soil around the cutting and then I add the pea gravel (which a lot of people cant do because it's too hot for where a lot of people live but you should be ok) You really dont need to add superthrive until your cutting is already rooted, because you dont have any roots to absorb the fertilizer yet. Once you get a couple leaves growing then you can feed it superthrive once every 2 weeks, but until then you dont need to give it anymore. How close is the soil from the grow light? The experts recommend the light be about 6 inches from the soil in order for it to be effective. Also, do you have some type of heater you can put under the plant? What the cutting really needs right now is bottom heat (like from a terranium heat pad or something similar) DO NOT WATER IT ANYMORE...It wont need anymore water until after it's rooted and you see new growth/leaves! Is there any way you can take a picture of it and put it on here so we can see it? I just saw that you talk about the leaves being black..Were they black/dark to start with (some red plumies have really dark small leaves and when they open up they get lighter in color) Does the tip of the cutting look black as well? If you go to plumeria101.com there is a section with pictures of plumeria with black tip..Check to see if your plumie looks like the pictures...Or post a picture and we can help you as well. Once you have a picture there, you can click on the second line under the picture (Tag)and right click on it. Copy it and then come here and paste it in your reply. It should work then... Yeah you're right that's probably why too. I got another rose around that area too and it's got quite big so I think that was taking a lot of the sunlight too. I tried to cut down the tree a bit, but it's too tall so I will have to get one of those electric cutters to cut it. I was going to move it to another place, but was told it wouldn't be best to do it now. Yeah lol I'm not giving up on it unless it's too late lol, I was meant to use the compost tea, but forgot to put it down so when I have a cup of tea I'll remember to keep the bags to put down around there.
