Question about window grid width: will 1-1/8 be too thick?

I am replacing 80-year old windows and am inclined to do pocket replacements. The original single pane windows have 1-1/8 grids. The windows include several large (8 over 12) cottage styles, but also smaller 6 over 6s. I plan to use double pane windows with SDLs and silver space bars.

While I always like to keep the original details of the house, I am concerned that 1-1/8 thick grids may look too beefy, for two reasons: 1) the windows will be double pane (not single pane like the original) and 2) the glass area will be reduced due to the pocket install.

In these circumstances, would 7/8 thick grids be better? Thanks.
