Straight or offset/stacked?

side to side will look choppy.

you could do a stacked layout w/no offset. see if you tile guy can do that.

or, do a slight offset,,,maybe 1/4 instead of 1/3, but lay them longways.

once you get everything in, do a little rug, it will be fine.

this one is a 50/50 offset which usually isn't recommended.

if you want to break it up, find another matching tile and do a "rug" in front of the vanity

The WC gives you an idea if how it looks vertically and it's certainly smaller your bathroom.

In your case probably vertical to get as many full length tiles as possible.

Are sold on 12x24? Maybe a square or another shape line a hex would work better?

Vertical would be fine.

I really dislike anything but 1/2 offset for rectangular tile. A good tile guy will have no issues laying a 12x24 with 1/2 offset, assuming you have good quality tile that is straight/level and square angled. 1/3 and 1/4 offset just looks very wrong to me!

If you take two tiles and lay them together like a sandwich, are they perfectly flat and touching in the center? or is there a tiny gap? turn them both over and do it again. anything?

if you don't see any light between the two, you could prob lay them how ever you like.

in any of these, you don't want sliver cut tiles on the borders, the ends, whatever, so make sure a dry layout is done so you know where to start your tiling.

lookong at my tile, im considering doing the straight stacked or half stagger im leaning toward straight because the suble veining in the tile is really pretty and i think having it straight gives the veining a really pretty uniterupted flow..

i think staggered may break the veining flow up a bit more, not look as delicate and soft(?)

the rub sureound tile is the same, but glossy and 10x13 should that have the same layout as the floor?

Don’t use white grout. Pick a color that matches main tile color. White will stand out and not the best look.

personally I'd pic a diff tile for the tub surround, but that's me.

I need to see pics of the tub area, the tile you want, that accent tile and where you want it, etc.

Just to give you direction. When in doubt go shade darker. Test. The Mapei Bone or Straw might work or similar from other products. Don’t overlook the importance of the grout.

i appreciate all thise suggestions about grout, but none of those go with anything. there is no beige/ ivory/ warm colors in the bathroom.

If the tile is basically white with gray veining, I recommend a light gray grout. Obviously, Internet color is not accurate at all.

Eld, yes I can see your tiles are 1/3 offset, but that is just my personal preference. Personally I like straight set or 1/2, the rest just look visually wrong for me. One of those few areas where I like symmetry!

are the 10X13 rated for floor tiles? it should tell you.

where did you want to use those on the floor? 10X13 is a very odd size. I'd do something on th walls w/them and maybe an accent tile.

Can you post photo standing just outside door into bathroom so we can better see the whole space please? The reason white grout is not desirable is the eye sees white first so the grout line becomes the focus. A grout color similar to main color of tile (but not white because white grout will be bright white and tile probably off white) so matching tile makes for better overall look. Second reason as Beth mentioned, easier to keep clean.

no, 10x13 are not for the floor the 12x24 are floor and 10x13 for tub wall surrround. same company and its from the smae collecrion, just different soze and finish they dont come in other sizes except relally tiny 2 inch squares

however, i do have white grout in this bathroom on subway tile of tub walls and a much nicer shower bathroom, and i honestly havent had any isuses with keeping it white.. i honeslty have given up on this mess of a bathroom, so there is a bit of discolored grout around the tub, but i admittedly have neglected it. i just cant stand rhis batheoom anymore , its getting ripped our, so i dont bother with it anymore 😂

but, it has been perfectly white for the past 8 years 🤷‍♀️

but, i will absolutey look onto the grey grout

Ok. Thanks that helps. I would run the floor tile straight back from entry parallel to the sink wall. If you want to use white grout, do some samples to compare whites. There are millions (exaggerated) of whites out there. When next to each other can be bad news. Love the accent tiles so pretty and watery! Nice choices.

Thanks flo , i agree , white is difficult to match. i like yours and beth suggesring light grays grout . it may look pretty with the soft veining of the tile i am going to see the grays and whites options and see how they look.

thank you; i love the blue wall tile. just trying to figure out if i shoud use the 10x13 glossy for the tub wall that is ftim tbe same collection and matches the matte floor, or pick a different one.

Good plan. I kind of like the more square tiles for shower. Fewer grout lines and easy for water to sheet off. I think it’s going to be very pretty.

As to style of layout for shower over tub area, i would see what layout you can do with that size to minimize grout lines. If your tub is standard 5’ long, you might end up with crazy corners. Discuss with tile installer. You might be better off with same flooring tile on walls of shower area. I like simplicity in smaller spaces so think it through carefully.

the 10x13 are an odd size, but i wanted to her away from the basic white subway, so i thought its a unique size, has rhe subltle veining , so its something a bit different. ive jist never seen that size tile before, so having trouble envisioning it. thinking id run it length wise , because the veining is horizontal. will be doing a full tun lenghth wall niche ( have 2 daughters) and use rhe blue accent rtile inside the niche

May I ask a question about grout? The first photo gtdj posted - the one with the ornate white fireplace on the left side - doesn't seem to show grout lines in the flooring. I had my kitchen floor tiled while I was away at work and came home to find wide dark gray grout lines (about 1/2" wide) around every white square tile. I've never liked the look from the first time I saw it but I've lived with it for years. Can floor tile be put down WITHOUT obvious grout lines and if 'no' then how did they do the floor in that first photo?

i have shower tiles in 2 other barhrooms in my home, with bery minimal groit lines.

i believe the installer used the smallest spacers he could. ill show you pics

The width of grout lines is determined by the edges of tile. Irregular shapes required wider grout lines due to variability of tiles next to each other. That’s why if you want thin grout lines you need tile with “rectified” edges. These allow for thinest grout lines. If they are “rectified” the tiler will have trouble laying without getting “lippage”. This is where one tile will be slightly higher than next tile. This causes tripping hazard so is to be avoided. Does your floor tile have “rectified” edges?

I believe they are all the same height but eventually will change the flooring. Thank you.

jayapple As flo stated, a recitfied porcelain tile can have very thin grout lines

compare those to a natural slate or limestone w/uneven edges or non-gauged sizes

you have to go wider w/these in order to keep the tiles in a straight layout.

All tiles will have a recommended grout size per the manufacturer. it's listed under specs/installation

gtdj,,,,,another poster just posted her tile work in the tub surround and her niche. I advised her how to do this niche so that it would fall between full tiles, no sliver cuts, and no partially cut tiles above or below.

Her wall tiles are somewhat larger than yours, but not too far off your size.

This wall tile acrually looks bery similar tomthe one we settled on. looks like they used the 12x24 in the shower .also a mich bigher soace than mine, so in their case, i think it looks nice, not choppy as it would in mine

ill be hsing the 12 x24 on the floor and the 10x13 on tub wall
