I’m a big fan of retail therapy, especially if what I buy is both just exactly perfect,and not expensive. The thrill of the hunt!

I have to get something in my head first. I don't randomly shop for entertainment but if I have a certain thing in mind I'm tenacious.

I have never felt the *need* to buy anything. This sounds lik a compulsion -- not good.

I haven't bought any plants in a while and my new yard is still pretty empty. But with near five dollar per gallon gas and diet-inducing food prices, I'm reigning in the urge.

When I want it I get it, not often though. My worst enemy for shopping is a fabric store. If I need it I buy it otherwise hate shopping.

I just bought a new pair of sandals simply because they were pretty. They made me happy and I will wear them with joy.

Recently bought 2 sets of curtains at JCP, then ordered another set online. Also ordered 5 comforter sets, sent 4 of them back plus returned 2 curtain sets.

Can honestly answer ”no”. I shop only when I absolutely have to and never see anything I feel I must have. Buying stuff brings me no pleasure at all, oh, with the exception of good food and travel. In fact I wonder if I have the opposite compulsion. ie not to acquire stuff. I can always think of a reason not to buy. Usually because I just don’t need it.

I want things, but I don't necessarily want to buy things. I like making things and revamping old things.

A few times I had my heart set on something and had to have it, and then it turned out not to be that satisfying after all, so I guess that experience has taught me to question my compulsions.

Not anymore. I'm in the process of minimizing my entire household, and I've worked so hard.

But because of this lack of spending, when I do truly need to get something, I get really excited!

Yup, sometimes. Sometimes it's satisfied by online shopping, and then I add things to my cart, but never actually check out. Sometimes I do give in a buy something new, but I buy something small and useful, like a new spatula, or a set of coasters. They are small things that cost little, and are replacing things 10 years old, so I figure it's not unreasonable. I get the satisfaction of having something new and different, even if it's just a different coloured spatula.

I've found I often get that need to shop when things are kind of chaotic and I feel like I need some control over my life ;)

Occasionally yes. I usually satisfy it with a quick visit to my Amazon wish list for a pink purchase. Most recently, I FINALLY found a big pink box grater and was very happy to get that. I also find that I am happy after a trip to the grocery store and I get to restock my fridge and pantry. Its like a hug.

If I have something in mind, then it can be compelling. I don't have a need to buy something without a reason.

I get an idea that I want something, and then I shop. However, my version of shopping then tends to turn into research even if it is something miniscule.. Then I research the item, or type of thing I want to verify the options of what I want, reviews (good and bad), different stores, and then ask myself do I really want it? I usually end up not getting anything, but sometimes I do, and then, I’m usually pretty happy with my choice 😀

Not really - I'm more about getting rid of stuff. I have pretty much everything I want or need.

No, I am in getting rid of stuff mode as we prepare to downsize. I do not want my kids to have to deal with what DH and I had to with parents’ stuff.

Sometimes when I'm stressed I'll promise myself a new plant for my collection, or that I'll actually buy a few books or jigsaw puzzles instead of just adding them to my "wish list". Get through whatever, earn the reward, have something to look forward to. That's my version of retail therapy.

Daki, I am an online researcher of everything before I buy, even the most mundane of objects (recently: attractive dish drains, a certain bookcase from Sweden, paper towel holders, a thing to keep my seatbelt from irritating my shoulder).

I always have loved shopping (this is NOT at all the same thing as buying) long before there was an internet, and now I can do it without getting in the car.

Generally when I get that urge, it's more about being bored or restless. It's similar to snacking when not really hungry. Now I find that I am more inclined to enjoy the process of exploring possibilities more than actually making a decision and implementing it. The internet helps a lot in that regard. Thankfully, I am less likely to buy online than in a store. If I am in a store I am more likely to justify things by the fact I actually left the house and can have it right now. If I order online, I have to wait for it to ship and that lessens the fun.

I get the urge to buy something whenever I run out of beer.

There is also the Diderot Effect but when I have that urge, I try to stock my pantry. This isn't always effective based on my closet.

Not usually, but I really would like to buy this waterlily. This is a 3rd day bloom, so it looks a little funky, but I love the blue splashed petals.

It's rare. When I do, I'll head to the thrift shop that benefits a local woman's shelter. I usually donate the item back bc I really like not having stuff. It's unfair to my daughter to have to deal with excess crap after I'm gone.

Nope, I don't have the need because I had it for over 40 years going to weekly auctions and shows and now my problem is what to do with ten rooms of antiques my kids don't want.

No...not a fan of shopping. The only exception - when a friend asks me to shop with her, and we just chat for hours while shopping. But...I am a minimalist. My basement is empty except for 2 cans of paint, a few tools, and a 1/4 filled storeroom (christmas decor). The rec room is completely empty, as is the huge room with the furnace and water heater.

I don't want to be 'owned' by my stuff.

Oh yes. I find a need for a new purse randomly. Not that I actually need one. I have quite a few. But I lost my entire collection in the flood so I guess I am trying to build a new one. Now I am looking for shoes that are more supportive and safe since the broken leg. No more bare feet or socks with dots! I have an appointment with an Orthotics & prosthetics specialist to help create shoes and inserts for me. My surgeon recommended that I do that.

TJ Maxx right down the street is always good for that. I know I can always find something to buy and it's probably going to be affordable.

Just bought 8 wind chimes and 4 more garden flags. I fly 8 flags to keep deer away from my roses, the 8 wind chimes are for deer too. So far they stay away from flowers and veggies.

Off topic sorry, but in a conversation I was having elsewhere, someone said that those motion activated squirters available on Amazon that attach to your garden hose worked to keep deer out of his vegetable garden.
