Tiling and door trim/baseboard/skirting question
Comments (1)Do you put the door trim on and tile up to it, or would you tile right to the door and have the trim go "over" it? Trim out the doors first. do people use a 'special' deeper jamb, or fur out the jamb? Why would it HAVE to be firred out? It's SUPPOSED to sit flush with the drywall. I will have a similar dilemma at the bottom - tile down to the baseboard? Usually tile walls don't utilize a baseboard. The tile goes straight to the floor. However, the times I've seen when baseboard WAS used, it went in first, and I tiled down to it. You want to make sure it has a profile where the top of it will be atleast as thick as the tile, though, so as to hide the edge....See MoreYour opinion, please, on removing the skirt from this club chair
Comments (33)Ok, I'm glad it's clear. yes, what you said --"If I do that, what I can't picture is how I would deal with the seam allowance part of the welting in that area where I wouldn't be able to staple it and hide it under the chair. Am I making any sense? " Just trim the seam allowence where the legs are...wrap around the leg and then continue stapeling. You can go back later and apply hot glue behind the welt by the legs -- if it's necessary... BTW ... that's the way it's done professionally. Barb, our chair was purchased in 1972, it was covered in brown valour with a seperate attached cushion (like yours, only it was tufted) when we re-upholstered it this last time, I wanted it to be different, so we left off the skirt and made the back solid (and tufted)instead of an attached cushion look... Just dive into that chair head first, and don't be afraid, it's only the welt, You can do it! Post the finished look, for us to admire. :)...See MoreTiered skirt question....
Comments (3)For the waistband tier length, measure your hips at the widest point and add 3". For the second tier length, multiply the waistband tier length by 1.5. For the third tier length, multiply the second tier length by 1.5. Do the same for each tier if you want more than three. These instructions came from an article in Sew News. Comments (6)The grain line runs parallel to the salvedges. When making a skirt it is usually cut with the center front and center back running along the grain line. Any other tiers should be cut the same way. Prairie skirts come in different styles with the underlaying theme of a full skirt. If you could post a photo of yours it might help. You could just try a pattern with a full skirt and then add your details....See More
