First, pull rug and sectional away from wall and windows. Give it some “breathing” room. And if that is TV cable, Hanging across the room from the window, I trust that will be fixed? As to coffee table, a live edge coffee table with an approximate shape could work but I wouldn’t recommend. Scraping your leg against that edge would hurt. Cut a piece of brown paper (rolls available at Lowes) and cut to shape you are considering. You need about 18” from seat edges to edge of coffee table so keep that in mind.

You can do one coffee table or a couple smaller tables. Just measure space available and see what sizes and shapes or ones that fits your lifestyle best. Here is a “mood board” with several selections.

To be honest…I would not leave that sectional up against the wall! Move it and the rug forward in order to create a nice area to watch TV. Otherwise not only is the TV too far away to watch, but all that open space in the room between the TV and the sectional at the other end of the room…it’s weird. Then you can use the section of the room by the windows for a grouping of two comfortable chairs (not the overstuffed kind) and side table, or a round game table and chairs, add a grouping of plants, so on. Function and practicality should come first!

Two votes for pulling sectional off the wall. You have the space.

I think you could do live edge. But it is all in how you feel about it. I do also like this other option you posted. This one could also lighten the space, with the lighter coloration on table top. Plus, I believe it ties in color-wise with your dining set and kitchen island.

Btw, I think a sleek, modern fan could look great in your room. Here’s just one fan idea, and this one has a remote control, so convenient.

Or, if you don’t really need the fan, some ambient lighting could also be nice. I love the birdies on this one.

Consider a style that would compliment adjacent, and open, dining/kitchen area table for your coffee table. Not matchy-matchy, but in a similar style, coloration.

No French. Your room is relaxed and casual. Simple lightly-patterned drapery panels could frame the windows. A live-edge coffee could work depending upon the size of the table. Guests sitting on the sofa need somewhere to place a glass or plate.

IMO the rug isn't in a style consistent with the kitchen and dining table. If you have a finished basement it would probably be better off there, as would a live edge table. I agree with you - I find them to be interesting and attractive also, but one wouldn't fit in with my first floor decor either. I have my finished basement decorated in a more casual style. Sometimes we can't use all of our great ideas in one house, or one room. Consistency is what sets apart professionally designed rooms from rooms done by the average person. IMO there are plenty of interesting coffee tables that would work in your space, just not live edge.

That rug is so heavy looking next to the leather sectional, I would change that out.

I think, if you want live-edge, you might do better to install a live-edge floating shelf. You'll have the lovely organic look without the bother of barked shins. For the coffee table, that light-coloured round one you posted is a good choice.

Also, I vote eleventy for moving the furniture away from the wall.

When you slide sectional forward, you could put a live edge bar height table along back of sectional with extra seating for movie night or game time. Something like this.

Tried off the wall and it looks awkward- the room isn’t THAT big I think the angle exaggerated the distance- and the hubs was rolling his eyes the whole time🤷🏼‍♀️🙄😜

Also moved a section to an tier side- vetoed by hubs- so sectional stays put for now

I agree…live edge seems out of character with your vibe so far…with a more organic rug…and a dining set switched to a more organic/earthy design…it could fit…unfortunately your tv cabinet and piano are not a good fit…a few changes there would be needed…to complete the look…painting the cabinets to match the wall would separate the connection with kitchen in a good way…at that point painting the piano black would update the look and tie it to the black tv screen would highlight it in a good way….this would also leave “room” for more organic accents like the coffee table…such as lamps and art…even an end/side table if needed….i would try to sneak the couch even 2” away from the wall…to separate it a little from the windows…with a hanging lamp in the corner where there will be no lighting at all at nite…

In your situation I would consider a shag rug…again a more organic look and comfy for rug lounging…in our house we love to lay on the rug to do daily stretches while watching tv/listening to the news,etc
