While there are some very good reasons for casements, I selected double-hung. For casements, I do not like the screens on the inside (outside is a little more kitty proof). Also do not like how when they are open, it is very apparent they are open. Lastly, I have encountered too many casements where the handle is broken (work & previous apartment). JMHO.

I live in Georgia. There is no way she can go after them. It's not possible. They don't have any money and live from job to job and are feeding their families and if you took money from them or got a judgment they could end up in prison if not able to pay and unable to provide for their family. It would not be satisfying. In the end it really just can't be done by us who feel sorry for them and understand these economic times. They usually work for less than a big company. They are not bad people just unfortunate people. There have been times when I have had to adjust my thinking to it being more or less a "donation" not that I can afford it but I can certainly afford it more than they can and have had in the past a better life. When you know the people and have used them before and had no problems with them it's not easy to haul them into court. I am happy that OP is not going that route even though she has been terribly wronged and certainly justified. Sometimes we get our reward in other ways. It's part of life and I am so very sorry this happened and hope that it will come out with some of the remedies presented. If not, I so feel your pain having had similar things happen to me on several occasions. It's no fun being the brunt of carelessness but sometimes the protracted route of going after people just make our stress level even worse and will end up the same anyway with you resolving it yourself. Here's to hoping it will all work out and that the paint will come out or be able to be covered up. I am sick about this for you.

When we replaced all of our windows with new Marvins, we installed large windows in our LR and Foyer, two windows (butted up against one another) in each room overall equaling something like 84 wide and floor to ceiling, or the maximum we could do according to code. Windows here cannot be completely floor to ceiling as it is a safety hazard? The thinking is someone could fall through? IDK? In MBR and DD's room we have larger end of the house windows. By code in our town, you must install egress size windows in bedrooms, which are huge. So along the back of the house every window is the same size, 4 in each bedroom, 1 in bathroom - which makes it look uniform with the back of the house downstairs windows - all the same size. I think so long as the windows along the same wall on, i.e., back or front of the house are the same size, it will look nice. We installed a triple window in DH's office and it looks nice from the inside and out when you look at the front of the house. It is absolutely a different size (as it is 3 windows together) than the other 5 windows across the front, but in keeping with the same length, IYKWIM? If possible, I think you want to be able to look at the sides of your home and everything be complimentary on every side. However, the gentlemen who built and previously owned our home did not ascribe to that particular theory and it wasn't a deal breaker - we bought our home anyway. Building it on his own, I think he must have put in 12 different size windows in the 2nd floor. I don't know if he got a deal or what, but it was a PIA when we went about the process of putting in new windows. Headers needed to be installed in places, sections of wall cut out, but in the end, I like the fact that everything looks more streamlined now. Plus, buying curtains is not the awful exercise it was previous to the install of our new windows:0).

One issue with wide casements--they swing well into outside walkpaths, etc. if those run alongside of the house outside the installation. Recently found myself almost braining myself when watering a flowerpot below an open kitchen window. We had to remove casements from our plan for lobby area when we realized they might smack close-by vehicles, bikes, etc. and would crowd the people who walk around a vehicle. Ended up with high awning windows, but could have done slide-by or double hung, I suppose. But by then I had thought hard about what a driveway view would be like and decided I wouldn't miss it.
