curb appeal - help me pick paint colors! add character & charm
Comments (32)I am probably too late, but I would think about a soft olive green, rather than a sage. I think the warmer tones of the olive would be nice in the shady space, and with a red door and warm white trim, along with the roof color, would be a wonderful combo! Have you considered adding simple trellises on either side of the lone window on the left? I would be nice with the cottage feel of the home, and would give some visual weight to balance the three windows on the other side. Paint the ceiling of the porch in a light blue, and change out the railings to wood ones. A charming cottage! Your current home is wonderful, and I can understand you hating to leave. But down the line, especially since remodeling is your passion, you will have something even more amazing, I am sure. For now, the cottage may feel small, but will also give you a sense of coziness and security that could be an island of peace in the storm....See MoreHelp Choosing Shingle Color & Ideas to Add Curb Appeal to Our House?
Comments (4)Hmmm...neither of those shingle colors look right to me. It could just be my screen, but the top one looks like it could have a little blue undertone, and the bottom one looks a bit red. Is the brick mortar more gray...or more gray than it looks on my screen? If so, I'd stick with gray for the roof as long as it has no blue. Gray roofs with brick are usually nice. Agree there's not much room for properly sized shutters. You could beef up the window trim instead. BTW, the roof color in your third photo looks good. Maybe stick with something close to that....See MoreLandscaping at front porch - need to add curb appeal and hide pipes
Comments (11)One could not know how to reshape the bed by looking at half of it, or seeing it at an angle from a distance. Return to where you took the first picture. Move in closer but where you can see the whole first floor of house and the lawn. (You'll be standing on the parkway or near edge of walk. OK to turn the camera to vertical format.) Take a panoramic picture by using that feature of the camera or by taking slightly overlapping pictures. Show every square in the of yard space that is between both drives. (We'll also be seeing your right neighbor's house in the background.) Normally, the clean-out pipes are cut off flush to the ground surface. I don't know if there's anything about your area that requires different, but that's the reason you don't see them elsewhere. Do all the yards there have these things sticking up like that?...See MoreIdeas to update & add curb appeal - 1970s home with neo-mansard roof?
Comments (7)Extend a welcome! Develop a planting bed extending from the front walk across the front of the house along the bow window. Include low shrubs, groundcover, and colorful perennials for year-round interest. Reserve a small area dedicated for flowering annuals for a pop of color (see below). Consider integrating an additional focal point near the entrance. For example, you could draw attention and enhance the arrival experience with a small bubbling fountain or lovely piece of sculpture. Add a bench or chair for a welcoming touch and a spot from which to enjoy your yard. Photo Gallery Layered plantings...See Moremid century mod
