picky couple needs help on bathroom tile for complete renovation

sparspunk
last year

We are self-described picky people and we’re having trouble finding overlap in our taste when it comes to everything….. ahem, when it comes to tiling our bathroom.

The photo of tiles is what we esthetically agreed upon, but the white marble tile is both too expensive for the main room and we worry about staining. The pebble floor tile and blue ceramic tile we still like for the steam shower, if only we can find something cost effective, that we both like, and that works with that look for the main floor. Help!

The photo below will be the main bath, with a white cast iron soaking tub centered under the window. We both lean towards a light airy feel for this floor section, here are some things one or the other has vetoed and other particulars:

No tile pretending to be something it’s not (no imitation marble, etc)
We both like natural materials
Must not be wood, as there will be electric radiant heat
A strong dislike for subway tile, bright whites, and penny rounds
A veto on high contrast, black and white, for instance
An aversion to marble for fear of staining
A need to be able to easily clean, and keep the tile “looking” clean
Leaning towards a white or cream floor for lightness
Not too busy, as the window pattern is lovely but quite busy
Not boring (no huge single color tiles)
We like slight color variation
And cost effective, we’re thinking 2k for this main floor for a 7’2” x 10’5” space

To the right of the window will be a glass front steam shower built into the wall. We are thinking of this as a sort of grotto and a place for a pop of rich color. We found some pebble flooring and blue ceramic tile for the walls and ceiling that we both like, but we need to make sure it works with the bigger bathroom floor.

I’ve also included some pics from tile bar of looks we both like, but not sure if they’ll pass the easy to clean, hard to stain test.

Please send recommendations on options we haven’t considered. Thanks for helping our project (and our marriage)!
