Are oranges named oranges because they are the color orange? Or is orange called orange because it's the color of oranges?

aok.....and MinPins! At least the one in my neighbourhood. Barks constantly from start to finish on her walk. That is the only dog I truly dislike. lol

Orange is called orange because it's the colour of oranges. When the Arabs brought oranges to Spain they called it "naranj", which by the time it got into English became "orange". Previous to that, the colour was referred to as "tawny".
