Wood-Look Tile ... I feel like it’s one of those things...
Comments (26)I don’t think wood tile is comparable to other types of tile (or tile sizes) in terms of how likely it is to become dated. Salt and pepper granite tile is the only other kind of tile I automatically react negatively to. And that’s not really dated, it’s just harsh-looking and out of place in most settings. People may say they are sick of subway tile, but it’s popular for a reason. Terrazzo was almost unheard of for ages, and it made a huge comeback. I’m about to install terra cotta tile in a kitchen. It’s already dated and a lot of people hate it. I really wanted a patterned cement tile, but decided against that. Not because it’s trendy and might become dated (I already have 100 year-old cement tile in another room), but because it was too bold for a partially open kitchen and would have contrasted too much with the adjacent wood floors. While I realize terra cotta is “dated,” I’m convinced it’s appropriate in my setting. What I would NOT Install is fake terra cotta. In a laundry room or basement, maybe. But kitchens get more focus, and I wanted a floor that seemed like it could have been original. Did I do the same with the appliances? Of course not, people don’t have 100 year old kitchen appliances. Trying to approximate that would look ridiculous. I feel similarly about wood tile. I don’t even like engineered wood floors with details like beveled edges or intentional distressing, but I don’t hate them and I think sometimes they look very nice (and suspect other times I can’t tell)....See MoreI have hD this brass thing for years, still don’t know what it’s for.
Comments (15)In 1879, Thomas Seymour, Edward Irvin and Clarence Wood Scott founded the Scott Paper Company and made the first toilet paper sold in rolls. In 1879, Walter Alcock created toilet paper on a roll, and used the perforated toilet roll instead of the common flat sheets. In 1890, the Scott Paper Company made its Waldorf brand toilet paper in rolls. In 1897, Wheelers Company began selling and marketing standard perforated toilet paper on a roll. In 1921, Waldorf brand (by Scott Paper Company) represented 64% of Scott's total case sales and this company became the leading toilet paper company in the world....See MoreIt's a good thing I like green papayas
Comments (5)writersblock, what zone are you in? Mine got a late start, because they just sprouted up in the late winter/early spring from garden scraps. One took off rather quickly, but the others are just tiny babies still. If I can keep them alive this winter, maybe they'll bloom early. I think maybe I don't have enough pollinators. Last time I tried to grow a papaya, it bloomed and got pollinated, but the baby fruit all dropped off. May be that I just can't grow papayas here, although I did see one in someone else's courtyard that had fruit. There are simply some things I can't grow. At my old house, I had a bird-planted papaya come up that had huge fruits on it every year. It was yellow, but had no seeds and was completely tasteless. The birds and squirrels seemed to like it, though, so I left it. Strangely enough, the papayas I tried to grow for my own use never made it or never fruited....See Moresomeone tell me if these will look good once it’s all set up
Comments (49)I have dark floors. As someone said, beautiful, but never again. Never. I don’t even have pets and I’m cleaning them constantly. And since your fiancé is arguing that you’re a neat freak and therefore is trying to talk you out of white cabinets, use that argument to get lighter floors. Now, onto white cabinets. Both white and dark cabs will show dirt. And I’m okay with that because then I know I need to wipe them down. But white will hide and dark will show are smudges. That’s a never ending battle here with young kids. Do what you want with that info....See MoreMischievous Magpie (CO 5b)
