dressing up exterior windows

How can I dress these brand new windows up next to our garage, since they seem a bit tall. Front of house has black shutters but not sure there is room for shudders. Windows sit above HVAC, so hard to fit any bushes below them… maybe faux bushes?

These are at the side of the house not facing the street. With the air conditioner units and the bins you really do not want to call attention to the windows. Don't do anything.

I agree with Rho. Perhaps some sort of ventilated privacy screen that would include both a/c units and the trash/recycling cans. I have the same blue recycling can in my driveway but nowhere to put a screen, and it really bothers me.

You could also consider a hanging a decorative piece of outdoor art or a lovely wall planter on the brick between the windows.

I like the idea of having climbing plants covering up the blank wall. That side of the trailer gets brutally hot sun in the summer, but I think I could find something that could take the heat--if not a clematis maybe an annual bougainvilla? (It would be an annual in my area anyway). Thanks for the suggestions.

You could remodel that hearth and do away with the part near the window :) I like the idea of hanging the panel on the left side of the window and just living with the weird drape over the mantel when they are closed. But I think I would put up a ceiling height valence and do wood blinds. You can change the fabric of the valence as you wish to change the look and the wood blinds are gorgeous and give a room a nice feeling.if you are worried about the height of the blinds then do the top up/down honeycomb ones in a similar color to the walls to make them visually smaller. The window will still be the star of the show and the valence will be the supporting cast that draws the eye.

Therma Tru does make very nice doors. You can have them pre-painted in a factory finish in several different colors. A black front door would be classic. I would stay away from any leaded glass Victorian type doors and look for something in keeping with the Colonial style of your house. The 6/6 grid style windows are appropriate for your home's style. Rectangular windows to replace the arches are a very good idea. Good luck with your project!

No. No more things in that small space: garage door, 2 windows, fireplace, 2 a/c units, garbage cans! Whew! worry about the inside and not having to look at all of that! If you really want to do something, move the trash cans elsewhere out of sight and add lattice in front of the A/C units fronted by large planters maybe even with a large garden obelisk so you can train a clematis or some such.
