Hi Kathy Could you post a picture? Canes, leafs and growth can tell a lot about a rose. You can safely prune out old dead wood, and old canes you don't want to keep, but the ones you keep must not be shortened by more than a 1/4, perhaps a 1/3 of the length. When once bloomers get very old and old canes have not regularly been pruned out, they might not take very well to pruning at all. Another thing than can inhibits a rose from forming buds is lack of sunlight. Trees and bushes might have grown too tall or dense over the years, and the rose has ended up in full shade all day. An old neglected rose will all ways respond well to good care, and if you don't do anything else, clean up all weeds around the rose and give it generous amounts of fertilizer. There a lots of brands to choose from, even especially made for roses. If it looks like it needs something extra to get it going, the organic liquid types with seaweed and other good stuff are really good. Give it a few buckets of fertilizer dissolved in water and apply in a fairly large radius, about as far as the roots spread. Moving a rose will set the plant back for a time, and it will probably do much better next year. Good luck with your rose, it probably just needs a bit of care :-)

I have a 2 1/2 year-old son and we also struggle with working in the yard at times. IT is better this year here are some things I have done... Let them water your containers or play with water. Drexler now tells me the flowers are crying because they are thirsty. I then give him the hose and let him have at it...last night he was right. One of my pansies was thirsty! Get excited about things. Right now EVERY DAY when I get home from work my son asks to go pick the strawberries. We go out and usually a new one is ripe (can't wait a few more weeks). He is still working on not picking the green ones, but he'll learn. Teach them what is yummy. Last year we planted carrots in a container and he would go out and pick a carrot out, wipe it off and eat it. Clean soil, no chemicals and hey he was eating carrots. Teach them to love flowers. How does it smell? How does it taste. Have them help you pick out what ones to pick. Drexler and I will do this together, go into the house and put them in vases and then talk about how pretty they are. I have a small vase by my bed that he empties out every day and replaces the water in...and then the flowers. A bit of a pain, but he is learning to appreciate my yard. Don't freak when they step on a plant, but do teach them to be nice to your plants. I have a large yard and Drex has hurt some of my plants, but we talk about how to treat them. Teach them to watch for bugs and to be interested in them. Ants can keep a kid busy for at least fifteen minutes. Tell yourself you will most likely not get a lot accomplished with your helpers so when you do accomplish something it feels good. Make them an area that is all theirs.

If you use the correct procedure and work carefully it is very easy to do. First off, give yourself plenty of room to work. Begin by marking where you want the stub out to be, then make a horizontal line on the wall about 4" above and a second horizontal line about 4" below. Begin on either line at a point about directly above the point where you wan the stub out to be and punch the saw into the wall, then cut horizontally until you feel a stud. Next gpo back to your starting point and continue cutting the horizontal line in the opposite direction until you feel the stud on the opposite side. Now go to the other line and repeat the process. You can then cut down on each end, keeping the saw tight against the stud and remove the sheet rock. Keep the sheet rock intact because it will fit back in the hole perfectly to close up when your done. Cut two pieces of 2x4 about 3" longer than the distance from the bottom to the top of your hole. On either side of the hole slip a piece of the 2x4 in so that the 2x4 is sistered tight against the existing stud and the tips of your 2x4 are slightly behind the sheet on both the top and bottom. Secure the short 2x4 to the stud with a couple screws. Now measure the horizontal distance between your new 2x4's and cut a piece of 2x4 to make your blocking. Insert the blocking and secure each end with a couple screws, then you can attach your drop ear to the blocking. Once you have the drop ear mounted mark the location of the drop ear on the sheet rock panel you cut out, drill a hole for the stub out, then set the sheet rock back in the hole and secure it to the 2x4's on each end with a couple sheet rock screws. At this point you will have a slight gap equal to width of the stab saw blade to mud and tape.

Not sure why my post did nto appear. These are my photos in previous post. They are Wenco windows, installed in 2001. Wenco was bought by Jeld Wen. Would like to repair instead of replacing the casement windows.Have had a few contractors that didn't seem interested and said to replace but one fellow said they could be repaired with Bondo. First, he would dig out the rotted wood, replace it with Bondo, sand and paint. He also suggested using PVC for the window sill which i initially opposed, but when shown the sample, thought it looked fine. Thoughts?
