.... so how DO you put a wardrobe together??
Comments (48)Ms-thrifty Good insight on the special event clothing. I read this in a recent better homes and garden issue, and applied it. I have started to consciously tried to steer into special clothes that can transition down to dressy casual. And then add accessories that can work with other outfits to bring UP casual to be dressy casual. Example is my niece is getting married tonight. I bought a solid color sheath dress that goes to the knee, and a chunky colored crystal necklace. I can wear them together tonight with heels for the evening wedding. To bring the dress down to dressy casual: I can wear the dress with silver jewelry and sandles. I can add a denim jacket and flats for fall. I can wear the dress with black tights, boots, and a cardigan for a winter. I can wear the crystal necklace with a white T shirt and dark rinse jeans for dressy casual. I can do the same with a turtleneck and boots for fall/winter. So I think what I figured out with this is you need to be selective in choosing the dress so it can work up or down. And be willing to also buy that accessory to bring it up to the full dressiness of the more formal occasion....See Morehow do you pare down your wardrobe?
Comments (25)I agree with Lyn. Last year I went through my clothes and decided to donate them to a womens shelter. I am a plus size and I knew they probably would be looking for clothes like that. I donated 3 large boxes full of clothes and some other things that I thought they might need, Like bedding and toiletries and towels and tablecloths. Not that I ever had a lot of clothes. My clothes would probably fit in a couple of boxes. I have about 6 pairs of shoes and 1 dress. My sister lately gave me some clothes. So now I have a few more. I am a cook in a restaurant so I dont have very many nice clothes. If I start wearing them for work they get stains on them, so I cant wear them anywhere else. After my sister gave me some of those clothes that she had been given that didnt fit her, I had too many black or blue pants so I put them in the 3 boxess. I thought what do I need all of these for anyway. I thought it would be nicer to share them with someone else who could use them. I have 1 pair of jeans that I really like and 1 pair that is a little too tight. I have about 10 pairs of capris that I wear a lot. I wear tshirs a lot but I only have about 10 of those too. We very seldom go out so I have no need for them. A few years ago the some of the roof got tore off of our home. My bedroom roof was gone. I got rid of a lot of things then and it is time to get rid of more. I like things simpler im my life. Maybe thats why I live in a town of 45 people and like it....See MoreIf I get a new bathroom mirror, what do I do with the old one?
Comments (26)"Here I am thinking of safety etc. and he never thinks anything bad can happen" Oh Piper101, I deal with this at least once a day in my home. Didn't think anyone else had this little 'problem'. Yes, different how they think, huh? lol MsRose, Personally, I love the big mirror look in bathrooms. Maybe because I've only ever had very small bathrooms with just enough room for the itty-bitty medicine cabinets with mirror doors. Would love your mirror! If it were my mirror and I had removed it by just whacking it (using all the safety procautions possible) and it came off in pieces, I'd repair the drywall (Very simple repair since it would only be a section of wall, not a whole room) and add the nice, decorative mirrors I've been seeing all over the TV and magazines. One sink, one larger mirror. Two sinks, each would get a separate mirror. Both would be nice enough that they would practically be focal points for the bathrm. I would get that done ASAP so that I could get to the creative (read: FUN!) part I love to do and that would be to use the broken mirror pieces to create something ala mosaic. Sooo many mirrored decor pieces out now on more upscale websites I've seen and the prices could choke a horse! From mirrored night tables to lamps. So, if you are asking what to do with the mirror should it not come off in decent pieces, I'd keep the pieces and create something fab-ooo, something unique, something special for my home. Here's an idea I found on the web not too long ago (while looking for ideas to use my Bordello Bunny pieces and shatters that were once two trays)....See MoreOld world textured walls & low ceilings-- how do we make it look good?
Comments (5)I really don't know what "old world" even means-- whatever it is-- I'm just trying to figure out how to make my house look nice with the textured walls it has. The current owners have done nothing to make it look stylish, and my eye for design is weak. Nearly everything I can find online has smooth walls, and Pinterest shows beautiful homes that aren't so realistic. There must be a way to keep the walls is and still have the place look modern* *not modern like farmhouse vibe, but just that the house looks updated and fresh instead of what it currently looks like....See MoreKivi
