What do you do when you are lonely? (long and pic heavy)
Comments (14)So sorry to hear of your loss. I think since DGM enjoyed gardening so much, she'd love the idea of plantings in your garden, in her memory. On a happier note...Happy Anniversary! Looks like you did some very successful shopping! I love 'one stop shopping' at community TS's...seems you find such a variety of great things. I have the same 'rant' with my GW. So many times I see items that are marked either the same price or higher than the store. Your candle holders were a great find..price and all, they were definitely waiting for you. Lovely cake plate and cute bunny dish. My favorite are the pretty For-Get-Me-Not plates. I love their delicate pattern. I'm thinking their name is also fitting to remember DGM by. I see great tablescapes using them and your other lovely dishes..which were also a great buy. Hope you and DH enjoyed a nice Anniversary with his favorite cake. jane...See MoreWhat kind of house do I have?? posting pic's
Comments (25)Here's a link to images of mine, which is in Western Penn. Predates yours by about 30 years (ours is about 1880), but they seem to have similar bones. At least you can see what yours might look like w/out the porch (south face, remembering that our south face is covered over w/ vinyl, so who knows what it looks like underneath). Our north face has a wide fascia board that's not really obvious on these pics. We took the vinyl off when we redid the small porch roof. On ours, the porch is probably not original adn stoop definitely isn't! I'm anxious to take off the vinyl all around to see if there might've been a porch on the south face originally. There are bones of Greek revival in both, I think. Also, we have an architectural student drawing up an addition for us and he has mentioned Federal style (but I think that's a stretch). But I think, as was mentioned early in the post, it's probably more of a working man's vernacular style (if it's not the Sears home, can't comment on that one). There's a very good book out there on American Architecture: McAlester, V. and Lee McAlester. 1984. A Field Guide to American Houses. Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. I'm sure it's on Amazon, or, if you're not really into *all* of the styles, it might be worth just a checkout from the library. Comments (12)Fori, yes, it is exposed aggregate. It's vintage (1970's) from a prior owner except for a back section (the strip along the long straight side of the pool) when we bought the house. There is a 2 foot drop at our fence line and that concrete had tilted. We had a concrete block retaining wall added to stop the subsidence and replaced that part of the concrete. They were suppose to match what we had and to my eye at the time they did okay but I've gotten pickier - the stone colors are the same but the new section has a lot more white stone. The original decking has more of the blue-black and reddish brown with just a bit of white. The sales guy for the pool refinish proposed redoing the pool deck but I didn't feel it needed it. It has some cracks but it's otherwise in good shape. The same exposed aggregate is in decking all along the back of the house, our driveway, and front entry area including the koi pond. With aggregate, the installation skill is critical. In a prior house, we had some where two much was washed away in parts so there were a lot of pop-outs and not enough in others so little or no stone was exposed....See Morecan you post a pic of art that you have on your wall?
Comments (22)I like your choices too..the woman is my favorite and I like the abstract too. Here is a wall of art I have in my kitchen. I've collected it over the years...lots of years...and it was all from flea markets, yearly antique shows out in a field or from ebay. One of my favorites came from a garage sale and cost a whopping $1.00. It's very eclectic but it's totally me. My kitchen walls are apple green..but every time I take a photo the camera picks the color up as a sick acid green. It's really not so excuse how it looks in the photo. And the lighting isn't great but you get the idea. Anyway, a lot of people think I'm quirky...and I don't care...so go for it if you like it. Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreLynzy
