4th year of rose garden..it's true
Comments (8)mzstitch............ I am gardening in glacier slurry/subsoil and after several years of mulching, watering and feeding, the soil in my more mature garden truly is easier to work in than when I planted my first roses. I am adding 10 new roses and taking out 9 and moving a few around and have found that it is a LOT easier to work in the rose beds than it was when the garden was young. Sidos-House ... I don't feel comfortable giving you any pruning advice as I have found that I prune very differently in this climate than I did in my older climate. I think it truly depends on the rose as to the best pruning method to use. When it comes to dis-budding, I feel very comfortable sharing my experience because the results do not appear to be so climate-determined or class-determined. I dis-bud my roses every year to keep rose curculios from breeding in my garden and have had the opportunity to observe the impact of this practice in my garden. I now use the technique for any stressed rose and any newly planted rose. SAS .... I think every rose gardener deserves to experience the joy of a more mature rose garden. It's up to us to educate them. I was lucky to have a mentor who taught me that patience is the gardener's most effective tool for success. Comments (150)My total packet bet is 7979.43 by the law of average, should be right on the button. Now while we wait can we talk about my poor pumpkin seeds that were so fresh when I sent them, I mean I was still turning them every hour in the sun coming thru my french doors, before bagging them. Anyway, today, to my horror, the Musque de Provence seeds were moldy green!!!!I did not figure tha tthe time from when I packed them and the time we will get our seeds back would be enough to mold them, as I din't want to treat them with chemicals or bleach but maybe I should have!!! Looked on line for answers , someone mentioned rinsing the seeds in hydrogen peroxide before drying them. I panicked and use what was close at hand , put some bleach in water and filled the little baggie with it and slooshed them around until they cleaned up a bit, then i rinsed them further with my fingers, and planted them in a peat pot to see about germination. I don't know what to tell you. It's really sad to loose these, they were beautiful pumpkins, of the brightest orange flesh. If they are really lost then I will have to make sure mine grows and distribute the seeds again thru another swap.I am so sorry about that, thought i was doing the seeds a favor by not using bleach or other chemicals...and look what happened. Comments (150)Melinda - I feel for you! I'm sorry you've had so many colds for so long. I tell you, every time my latest one acts like it's about to go, then I fall further sick... it's weird to start feeling like you're getting better just to then ache more than before! Jean - You really had me giggling there. I understand all too much. I'm about half way through the lists and still have to pack up the matched seeds to what I know I have in my stashes.... somewhere... I wish they were all alphabetized! Comments (153)I would love to see Chris be able to join us in this swap as so many others seem to agree. (I read a little further and see that she's in... WELCOME, CHRIS! You're gonna have a great swap with us!) Amy (morguegirl) - I would love to grow those Guyanese Peas, if you don't mind sending some in for me. Thanks so much for posting the offer! They sound very interesting! Mark (markcase1964) - If you're sending more in to Patty, I saw that you had Black Walnut, Native Pecan, and Jerusalem Artichoke available before. Do you still have some of those that you could send in for me? David (intelkid) - I sure hope you decide to stay. It seems that others that thought they didn't have much were still able to fill some wants when they posted and were able to participate and get things back that they really want. I think it'll be fun, and you'll enjoy it if you stay! (As I read more posts, I see stage_rat has offered very generously to assist you! Wow! It amazes me over and over again, how wonderful the GW'ers are! Welcome back, David!) Happy New Year everyone! Blessings, Angela...See MoreArtist-FKA-Novice Zone 7B GA
