Mixing white appliances w/ stainless steel?
Comments (3)We bought the house we are in now almost three years ago-and it had white cabinets, white appliances and cream laminate counters. VERY WHITE....we too had to buy a fridge and I couldn't decide if it was okay to buy SS and went with white so it would "match" the others. Now we have replaced the counters and ALL the appliances with SS. I wish I would have just purchased the SS fridge I wanted from the start-I think it is certainly okay to mix them-and if you buy the white knowing you plan to eventually replace the other ones you may regret it-I did immediately. Now my almost 3 year old fridge is in the garage-which is fine...and I do love having it there-but would have saved me $2500 to just get the SS to begin with....See Morechrome faucet ok with SS appliances, sink?
Comments (14)FWIW, some food for thought while you are deciding: 1) Chrome will look just fine with your SS appliances and sink, and in fact, will add a little sparkle which is nice (we chose the polished chrome finish for our ceiling fan, despite choosing SN handles for our cabs--the fan co.'s SN/BN finish was very dull-looking and a very muddy color at that that--it looks awesome in the chrome, much more special than it would have in the other, drab finish). 2) Most of the faucets I've seen do look prettier in chrome than they do in SS or SN. but: 3) Chrome does show spotting more readily than SS, so you might be wiping it down more often to keep that shiny, clean look. I've chosen some things for our home, knowing that they will require a little more "upkeep" or attention in order to remain nice, while rejecting others as being, not worth the effort (for me). 4) Grohe's SS is SS through and through--we chose SS for our Ladylux Cafe faucet because we felt the finish would hold up best through the inevitable bumps and banging that occur when we wash stuff in our sink (e.g. "buffing" out some of the "damage" if need be). Hope this helps--you can't go wrong either way! :-)...See MoreMixing Countertops, marble, stainless and wood?
Comments (12)Thanks! As for period appropriate, I think given the size and origin of our house (ironically built for a steel co executive in 1927) stainless may just be ok. I will share some pictures, it is a beautiful old home with incredible detailing and materials. We were lucky to have the chance to live here! Yes, stainless DW with be by the sink. We were thinking carrara marble. Had not considered wood around the sink because of water concerns. We use the kitchen a lot! We often eat late after kids' activities and dirty dishes wait on the counter or in the sink, sometimes until morning. We are not pristine kitchen people! Pictures are from real estate listing before we moved in. It's furnished and lived in now! Current Butler's Pantry (will still be blue, slightly different shade, new lighting, subway backsplash, refinished countertops darker wood, flooring will hopefully be original wood refinished, german sink to stay, new cabinet hardware.) You can see the a bit of current kitchen through BP and the orange wall with horrible track lighting is the nook where the sink will be. Current 1980s kitchen, very bad layout, very narrow aisles, unusable counter space. The double oven wall will become the range wall. Approximately where DW is now is where counter height table will be. Foyer entering from front door, all the way straight at the top left the orange wall you see will be the sink wall. LR is immediately to the right, the other room on the right with light common through is DR. And just to see some other original materials, upstairs bathroom: Thanks!...See MoreMixing Chrome and Stainless Steel - OK?
Comments (9)It is hard to find a kitchen which doesn't mix stainless steel with another metal. Most appliances now are stainless steel, and there are stainless steel sinks. As others have said, the polish of a chrome faucet is very nice against these finishes. The majority of homes do not have finishes on their faucets to go with their appliances. There is usually a significant upcharge for different faucet finishes over a chrome finish. Most people aren't on the Kitchens Forum, and they don't give their faucet's chrome finish vs. their appliances, knobs or sink finish much thought. When you go to relatives' or friends' homes, does it bother you if their faucet finish is different from other finishes in their kitchens? Have you even noticed?...See Morealways1stepbehind
