paint color for south-west facing sunroom

The sunroom at our cottage is currently a dark yellow that I don’t love the tone of. Looking for some ideas for paint…I tried sea salt (Sherwin Williams) based on some posts I read, but quickly realized it’s too close in color to the exterior of our cottage (light blue) which is visible from the sunroom.

I kind of want to try navy but I’m not usually that bold, and probably wouldn’t want to do the back 2 walls such a dark color. Can I paint just the window/outside door walls navy and the other 2 white?

The sunroom leads into the main cottage which is white with dark wood trim.

White couch and white desk will stay in the sunroom long term, other furniture is temporary.

Maybe look at using exterior blue color but in the next lighter shade of that color?

Hmmm, I dunno, but I bet it would be really pretty if they did. We used it originally in a guest bedroom and found it so calming a easy to be in, we used it in our master too. I didn't tint the white for either ceiling because I really like the crisp look of white with blue. In our guest bath, we used SW Tradewind. That too is a calming color but it leans towards the aqua side of the spectrum. I used French Gray for the ceiling.

Maybe it depends on what part of the country the home is located. Frankly, I love, love, love my home's orientation which is similar to the op's, but without anything on the north side. My garage is on the southside and blocks a lot of brutal sun. I have a low slung house with very wide eaves in New England. I appreciate the rising East sun in the bedroom, and the kitchen skylight's brighten the East facing kitchen in the back. The sunny west facing Bow window in the LR in the afternoon and evening makes the room inviting and cheerful. I appreciate that the snow quickly melts off my West facing driveway which gets full South exposure also. If I can ever get a raised backyard patio installed, with or without a screened room, it will face east and the house and garage will provide late day shade. I have great insulation and have no issues with extra summer heat in the home. Good luck!

Southwest..I would think yellow would affect your color choice. By yellow, I mean the the impact of the sunlight. Try B.M. Gull Wing Gray or any gray on that strip. It has a blue undertone which will cool things down and stay true. Chantilly Lace is a good white as a coordinate. As for your two considerations. I am going to say no to them, as each has a bronzy undertone which will change drastically once on the exterior.

@jackowskib great idea but we didn’t paint the outside so I don’t know what color it is!! But maybe I could try to match.

It looks like a fairly small room. Deep colors make it feel smaller, IMO. I’d do a soft color (not a neutral) since you say you are keeping the white couch. Soft sage green maybe?

The world is your oyster. You have to decide what feeling you want when you walk into this room and what colors you want to use to portray that feeling. You have some great breaking points with the ledge and window sills, so you can change colors between under the windows, the sill, over the windows and the ceiling. . .

Blue

Green

A soft yellow

Pull in some deeper colors . . .

or do 2 tone (Probably should have kept a white ceiling for this one)

Do something unexpected like an iguana green and gray

Pull in a peacock blue

Or keep your white and use just the ceiling and trim to bring in some color. . .
