Some places honour a sale price if it goes on sale the following week. I'm pretty sure Canadian Tire does this.

Can’t hurt to ask if they’ll honor the price, many places will give you the discount within a certain time period. Also, many places don’t charge the restocking fee despite what the sales slip says. So maybe you could return and re-buy. I have no idea how expensive this item is, sometimes it’s just a frustration and other times it’s worth pursuing.

I wasn't actually price shopping, but the electrician I contacted about installing the unit included a link to the item in his estimate. I followed the link to make sure his expectation of what would need installing was actually what I would be installing - it is, at $120 less than I paid for it.

I did send them an email, but it's not the kind of thing I think Tesla will do.......they pretty much have a lock on that market.

Every company has the ability to set prices for what it sells, I'm not sure how Tesla would be different from any other.

food, I'm not sure how the circumstances matter. Companies are free to set prices for services and products sold and try to assess market reactions before and after making changes. Upward and downward adjustments always result from an underlying rationale assessed and then decided upon internally, whether causal factors are disclosed or not.

Yes, I would have been upset too. As others have said, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Nope - as foodonastump said, it's because they're no longer including mobile charging units with their cars. They're trying to take some of the sting away from buyers who would otherwise have used the mobile cable at home and not bought a Wall Connector. And the comparison with Apple is a good one, because they're both very vertically integrated companies. There's no "trade discount" to electricians because, as I said, I (like all drivers) buy the unit from Tesla myself.

I've heard on Tesla owners forums that they are issuing discounts to some owners in the same situation. I hope I get one as well.

My ”nah” was in response to your contractors price suggestion. Evidently it was price for everyone that went down in recent weeks.

As for my initial suggestion to ask for a price adjustment, I said that before knowing it was Tesla, as opposed to something on the open marketplace. Some companies will offer retroactive pricing because it’s good for business. If I want a TV now but am hesitant to buy it so close to Memorial Day sales, they have a choice: Tell me they’ll adjust the price should it go on sale, or risk losing the sale altogether. Knowing Best Buy would protect my price during the return period I would buy from them before buying from someone who would not make this guarantee. Again, probably won’t work out for the OP but the worst that can happen if she asks is they say no. Me, if they said no I’d probably do the return/repurchase thing out of principle even if it only saved me $30.

The price of a part from a contractor is often not the same as the price when purchased retail. I've experienced both higher and lower prices, it depends on what and also depends on the contractor's MO. I wouldn't think practices of mass market retailers in highly competitive spaces like Best Buy would necessarily apply to specialty, low volume products.

Everyone's different. I don't desire (or have a need) to feel I'm getting the best possible price when buying stuff. I don't want to feel like I've been had either but a fair price is a stopping point. That's also why I don't refer back to pricing changes after making a purchase. OP apparently paid the going price on the day of the purchase. That's was fair then and there and that's not a lifetime price guarantee.

Contractor price is not relevent to this case. We’re talking about a pubished price drop.

Evidently some large retailers have assessed customer reaction to products going on sale shortly after purchase and decided it would be a negative one. If their resulting policy is based on an expectation that customers will come back for price adjustments, I see no reason not to take advantage of it. Other than if it’s not enough of a difference for me to waste the time and effort. Unless money is no object for you, I suspect at a certain threshold you’d go for the adjustment, too. Your threshold might just be higher than mine.

I think you answered your own question when you said "They dropped the price because they no longer include it with the car."

That would seem to not be quite the story. They'd apparently raised the stand-alone price, then stopped including it for no additional charge, then reduced the price so that customers have to pay extra to get it. Net effect to Tesla = price increase.

They are actually two different products - one is the Wall Connector, to hard wire into the home's electrical system. The other is the Mobile Charger, which can be plugged into any of a variety of outlets (with adapters, if need be). They used to include the Mobile unit with the car, but they no longer do. They never included the Wall Connector.

A little bit different but one day we went to Petsmart to buy something we saw at petsmart.com. The price was higher in store so we asked for a price adjustment. They refused We walked outside and ordered it online for store pick up then walked inside to get our order. It made no sense. We saved $16.

@lisa_fla Your story is REALLY annoying. I’ll contrast that with my experience at Staples the other day: I had help finding printer ink and was told to show the cashier the online price and they’d match it. I appreciated that, but also wonder how much more I’ve paid for their in-store products over the years.

I'd call them and ask for the sale price to be refunded. Just to hear what they said. Maybe it's no big deal to give you a refund. Then whatever happens...happens...and it's over....done. A lot of places have a 30 day price guarantee.

Here’s another one - seeing sale signs at the supermarket saying ”with digital coupon.” So I go on my app to load the coupon, not reflected at checkout. Ask, ”takes about an hour to work. You should load them at home.”

I don’t go nuts looking for the best prices on everything. But come on, decide what you want to sell it for and sell it for that!
