Any experience with Chinese quartz countertops?
Comments (37)@linnertime - Can you share the color and manufacturer? Hard to tell from the picture, but it definitely resembles the Arlington Grey (Best Cheer Stone) that we are getting... Thanks....See MoreAny Experiments?
Comments (8)I like your experiments. My prediction on #1 is that the screen will act as a sort of barrier to the root system. Only tiny feeder roots will be able to penetrate the screen. I think that by putting the screen under a foot of soil, it won't be an issue but if you had only done, say 6 or 8" of topsoil, it might have been. I certainly don't think you will have to worry about your peppers getting uprooted any way once they grab on to the screen below. I will especially be looking forward to seeing the results of your #2 experiment. Container soils are a lot easier to manipulate and test side by side, but no so much with in ground gardens. Good luck....See MorePainting kitchen countertops? Any experience using epoxy based coating
Comments (30)It has held up great! I have a couple scratches from kids cutting without cutting board and dent from someone dropping cast iron skillet. There is also a dull spot near sink. I see it but rest of my family doesn’t, I think because I know I said don’t let water sit overnight. Overall I would do it again. I still get compliments and people are shocked I did it myself....See MoreAny experience with composite/plastic decking? I'm at a loss!
Comments (9)Pick yer poison. Any decking material will get hot in full sun, be it natural(wood) or man made. The heat from wood will not be as intense as from composites because the composites are more dense and contain plastics. Maintenance will be necessary with any wood. The exotics mentioned previously do not need as much maintenance, unless you want to keep the color, in which case those require more maintenance. Cedar is a decent alternative for both. 5/4 decking boards have rounded edges, which cuts down on splinters. Cedar is a light weight wood, less dense and will get less intense heat from full sun. However, untreated cedar turns gray over time. And treating to keep the color is almost yearly maintenance. Composites have been improved as far as color loss. They still need regular cleaning(pressure washing with high pressure is not a good idea). They will get hotter in the sun. Hot enough the kiddies will be at least uncomfortable. So, look at all the possibilities, note the plusses and negatives and see what you need or want....See Morebbstx
