The daffodils will bloom for you without chill. Go ahead and plant them. FYI all daffodils will not persist (come back year after year) in the deep south. There are those that will, but more that won't. So, depending on the varieties you bought, you may or may not see them after two to four years. Neverthless, you'll enjoy them for now and can do research in the meantime. Crocus tammasinianus will bloom and return for you. That is the kind that is commonly sold here, so with a bit of luck, you should be alright with that. The hyacinths, however, do need chill for 8 to 10 weeks in order to bloom. I understand about the space issue. By next year, I intend to have a little dorm fridge that I can run in the garage for the few weeks it takes to chill bulbs. I have been known to chill bulbs in the church refrigerator too, although this requires permission. :) If you want to learn more about bulb growing in the south, get your hands on Scott Ogden's Book, "Garden Bulbs for the South", which I discovered based on recommendations from others in this forum. Without a doubt, I have saved more than enough on bulbs that don't have a chance of thriving here than the cost of the book. And, my pleasure in bulb growing has multiplied tenfold. (I have Grand Soleil D'Or and Grand Primo Paperwhites in full bloom in my yard right now. It surely does brighten up January!)

Nice set up Barberberry, I must say I've got a little garden envy after seeing your spread! I would love to one day be able to run a operation like that. For now I will just keep grinding away in my yard. Thanks for your input on Rabbiteyes. Not many people on here seem to have to much to say about them and I may have a few questions for you in the near future about them. Foolishpleasure, are you getting Brightwell or Sharpblue? Sounds like you may not have to worry too much about pollination with your rabbiteye that's flowering now if they are indeed self fertile. As far as 2 crops in one season, that's a good question! The only variety I have that has that potential is Emerald but it's grown out doors, not in a green house. Fruitnut could probably answer that for you as he grows his in a green house. That being said, the fall crop on Emerald is very light and I haven't got a good berry yet in fall. I've left a few on there that last 2 falls to see but they never sweetend up for me. There is a new variety called Sweet Heart, Berries Unlimited carries it and they claim you get two crops, spring and fall. If I lived in your zone I think I would add that one to my collection. If I recall right it's a NHB/SHB cross. Don't hold me to it though! I was going to get one just to see how it performed here but the zone ratings haven't been nailed down yet, at least not zone 9a/b where I am. Sunshine blue is a SHB and I believe it's rated to zone 5??? It's a easy plant to grow as well and suppost to be pretty darn cold hardy. Good luck and keep us posted with your results.

Stac5455, just a suggestion, I would stay 500 ft. away from FHN as they have been questionable in their credibility of supplying the blueberry varieties they claim to be. Many of us have been burnt with FHN's blueberry varieties. Despite reading online comments about FHN, I have purchased blueberry plants from them yet the plants already show different growth habit characteristics than what they are supposed to look like. I have yet to wait for the real fruits to determine if they sold me what it was supposed to be. It is really painful way to find out it is a different variety than what you had purchased only after several years. Plus they have not responded my questions concerning the plants I received. Just Fruits and Exotics has been highly recommended by many blueberry experts. I have contacted JF&E recently, they are going to have many blueberry varieties available for the fall (most likely in October). You might want to contact them to see if they will have Spring High available in the fall.

Yes, some of mine always flower some in fall. Especially the low chill types. But it's usually only 5% or less of total fruit buds on the plant. Usually 1% or less. Some like Star have higher chilling needs and don't flower early very much. I try to force some in fall because in my greenhouse it never drops below freezing. This gives me a few fruit in winter or early spring. Last winter I had some great fruit especially from Santa Fe. That variety is usually very sweet and low acid. Because of the cool temperatures in winter the fruit was sweet/tart and unlike anything you'd get in hot weather. Late summer pruning will force some bloom. I probably pruned too late this yr but do have some flowers opening now. Many look just like yours which is kind of half flower and half vegetative. The shoot ends in fruit flowers/buds not vegetative buds like a normal summer shoot. Those fruits if you could save them would be up to double normal size. I'm trying to force those type shoots with the big berries at the end of the shoot fall or spring.
