Comments (17)Another source to look is jcp.com. I noticed they have 3 blackout drapes (one in regular home WT section and 2 in clearance) in the longer length at low prices--if the colors work for you (always the challenge). If you can't find the grommet style that might be easier to pull open/shut on a daily basis, you might consider ring clips since they slide easily. If the hem looks too challenging to alter on rod pocket styles, you can cut off the top and rehem that quite easily. IMHO they'll look best if you have them full length, rather than end at the window sill. It seems like that would really detract from the effect of the window. Even your inspiration pic, while really cute, seems to just miss the mark a bit on the curtains. They're ok I guess, but full-length would have been better--IMHO. You may have to get extra panels to give the fullness you want across the window when they're closed unless you go with custom widths. Good luck with your project! Comments (13)Justa' thought for you and probably a much less costly solution.... First, I'd use black wrought iron poles/rods for what I'm about to suggest. Think about using a rich, earth toned fabric (rust & lt golds..maybe in a paisley design? However wide your total window is..buy that much yardage...(based on 54" or 60" wide fabric). I'm seeing a canopy suspended down about 4' from the very top of the top windows. The width of the fabric would be the length of the canopy (w/perhaps 3" hems at top & bottom. Run the top of the canopy on a pole at the very top.Then.. by simply placing a pair of the black wrought iron 'L' shaped plant hangars at the 4' mark-you can run the bottom edge of the fabric's hem thru another pole & it will project out away from the window somewhat..I think you can get them w/a 12" arm. This canopy would then cover the top 4' of your windows entire length. From a person's view sitting on your furniture-you'll still be able to look up and out the upper windows-but the glare from the sun will be blocked from the top portion. Also I'd again-(a simple hem job)...make dummy panels to hang from the very top of the top windows-all the way to the floor...one on each end and one on the 2 center wood casings. The canopy would hide your short rods from which the panels will hang. Then to give you a soft look to the bottom portion...you could hang, say- light gold, tab top sheers or semi sheers,on yet another black pole, which would diffuse any afternoon sun. This pole would be placed, on the section of the wider wood beam (for lack of a better word..the one that's 2 glass panes above your sample blinds). Topping it all off would be some really decorative black finials on the ends of the 3 poles. Methinks it would just be a different approach & not something eveyone else has. The cool thing is-if you bouth the drapery panels all in 1 continuous length at Joanne's? You'll get it for the 40 or 50% off price coupon-just cut off the 4 lengths of the windows yourself....See MoreNew construction, wrong windows in great room
Comments (15)Thanks for your encouraging words, EcoStar! The correct window is similar in size. The builder called my husband and apologized profusely (yes, he should have caught something this obvious)and I would be lying if I said I am not nervous about this being repaired properly, knowing how these workers rush to get the houses finished by settlement. I am not there to check, so I have to trust it will be done properly. Yes, you are right about mistakes that the homeowner never knows about - because the repairs are done right and there is no evidence of a repair. Sometimes, issues don't manifest themselves until way down the road. Should we indicate our concerns about the Hardi-Plank and not wanting many seams on the exterior? I certainly don't want small pieces of the plank and a choppy look! Thanks for your input. Husband is not concerned, but he is not the one who will have to be here and drive 4+ hours to meet these guys down the road if repairs need to be done! It will be me and I am trying to avoid that!!...See MoreNeed Help - Window Treatments - Living Room Slider & Side Windows
Comments (3)Hunter Douglas makes a couple different shade product lines that come in co-ordinating fabrics/colors in both a horizontal and vertical version. These vertical options are not going to be the traditional PVC clanky, vertical blinds most are used to. You can get soft shades like Duette® Honeycombs, Skyline® Gliding Panels, or Luminette® Privacy Sheers. All these vertical products come in a horizontal version as well.
