How to address a flooring issue for a mountain house update?

This 30+ year old Colorado front range mountain home is so ready for an update. How would you address updating the currently carpeted area in the front room that butts up to the wood floor at the entryway? We’d like to avoid ripping out the wood floor at the entryway as the floors continue on up the two stairs to the dining room and kitchen. We’re considering replacing the carpet but that front room gets very dusty from the wind . It seems like matching the wood for a continuous look would be challenging. Would cork flooring or tile be an option? What would you do with this small, currently outdated carpeted area?

Our current goals for this update are to both brighten up and calm down the present “busy”, dark pallet by continuing the white washing of the brick elements, with the fireplace next, now that the interior planter and entryway wall is done. We decided to paint the window trim and ceiling a SW Extra White and the walls are going to be SW Fleur de Sel throughout the house. We are refinishing the wood mantle on the fireplace and we’re keeping certain wood elements throughout, but not the window trim. The general aesthetic we’re after is Modern Farmhouse. Using Steel Lighting for most of the interior lights as we used to replace exterior lighting and we were very happy with the look.
