Comments (5)cattleya, congrats on the blooms. I bet you can't wait for those to open :) Jroot, I don't know about that Y thing anymore, only because I have 2 nice straight cuttings that I recently took off, about 2 inches from the bottom of a 6 ft CG tree. The Y is at the top of the tree. The trunk had no other branches on it. It has only been a month and one is about 10 inches and the other is about 12 inches tall. These guys Y'd while they were in water rooting!! One made a Y and one made a tri- Y !! It is the freakiest thing. They even started some tiny buds in the crotches of thier little Y's. This is the first I 've ever personally seen of this on any of mine. I need to take some photos! Typically they do have to come above the Y to Y and flower while small/young if its a cutting....See MoreMy sabal minor 'McCurtain' got bud rot
Comments (13)I think also the cold wet spring and cloudy winter have taken their toll this year, did you have any build up of moisture over the winter in the plastic?I think another thing that gets over looked is the weakened state our palms are in coming out of winter, untill they show signs of breaking dormancy and beginning active growth they are not powered up yet for spring.I bet in the case of sabals and other palms that enjoy summer heat that the cold wet spring weather is a dangerous time esp coming out of winter. As far as tracys go my "takil"is on its second leaf since being planted 3/30 and the other tracs are all about to open their first leaves, the plant thats grown the most is actually my yucca aloifolia(7 new leaves)all my stuff that was just planted(3/30)is growing faster then my palms that that were in the ground all winter,go figure! My sabals are doing nothing now but are showing some signs,it has not been a very warm spring, but I agree when the 80F weather hits(which may not be till after memorial day the way things are going)everything should be jumping!I hope your sabal comes back for you!probably be a few months are more before you find out.GOOD LUCK!...See Morebengz6westmd
