Ethan Allen furniture... comments on quality
Comments (92)We recently spent almost $30K in Ethan Allen, Pasadena on a dining set and two sofas for our new condo. To make a long story short, the dining tabletop had significant flaws, blemishes, chipped corners and holes filled with putty. Don’t fool yourself with in-store samples. Once they have your money, you are stuck with what you get and no one takes responsibility for what has been delivered to your home. The accent pillows that came with the sofas did not match our selected material and did not include the surrounding fringes. Tiffany, the sales lady evidently had not placed the correct order according to our selected material. Despite sending pictures of our selected material to Greg the manager as well as Tiffany, both of them still refuse to take any responsibility and accept their mistake. After spending some $30 K in this store, they refuse to even replace $200 worth of pillows due to their own mistake. When you are in Ethan Allen, you think you’re dealing with a reputable company until the furniture is delivered. If you’re in the market for anything with after-purchase services and warranty, you’ll be better off avoiding Ethan Allen. Their sales tactics are just like entering car dealerships. Never again will I or anyone in my extended family shop at Ethan Allen. Don’t give them any of your hard-earned money. Horrible service, no accountability and their prices are very expensive. They deserve numerous negative stars, if any star at all....See MoreDiscounts on Ethan Allen?
Comments (14)My EA British Classics dresser is the same price today, $1499, as I paid for it back in 2001, so that hasn't gone up. And yes, the warehouses do have clearance sales a few times a year, but you probably need to have purchased EA furniture to get on the mailing list. I will echo what other people are saying about the furniture being priced too high for what it is. IMO that dresser should have cost about $1,200, if not less. On one of the larger drawers two of the boards are slightly splitting apart, and recently I noticed a knot mark that seems to be leaching sap or something. There is still quality, solid wood furniture, being made in the U.S. I found a beautiful dresser at Crate & Barrel recently made by a Vermont company called Copeland. Solid cherry, absolutely perfect fit and finish, and just $2,000, which I think is a deal considering the excellent quality....See MoreEthan Allen Bookcase Decision -- Dark Wood or Light Wood?
Comments (11)Thank you to everyone for all the thoughtful replies! I agree that I shouldn't feel pressured just because there is a sale and normally, I'm not impulsive at all when buying furniture (which drives my husband crazy because I take forever to make decisions!) However, I've never purchased furniture from Ethan Allen before and my understanding is that it rarely goes on sale. With the state of economy, perhaps that is changing. Some of you suggested that I get a quote on a custom piece like this in a painted finish. I did have a number of an Amish carpenter and contacted him today about this so we'll see what happens! I'll keep you posted. Thank you so much to everyone! I appreciate your advice and if anyone has any additional input, I'd love to hear your opinons! This is a great website and I hope to start visitng more often again!...See MoreEthan Allen Bedroom Set Worth?
Comments (21)Yeah, I can finally see the pictures today! I'm impressed, these pieces look to be in very nice condition. As a buyer the thing that I would look for is a close-up shot of the table top of the dresser and night stands. That's usually where the worst of the wear happens, scratches on top where people have set things on over the years. Do you have a fill stick for the dings? Those work really well and a furniture stain pen in the right color will make scratches less visible. The armoire has a beautiful patina to it, like you've taken care of it by not letting it dry out. An application of Guardsman furniture polish will bring luster back to duller areas. Even though this is an older suite it looks better than some of the stuff I've seen on CL only a few years old. I think it will generate a lot of interest because the style doesn't date itself. It's a good thing when you look at it and can't tell what decade it was made in. Do you think I'm wrong to guess it's from the 1970s? I only say that because it reminds me of a bookcase my mother had and a chest of drawers belonging to my grandmother, both had a similar "pecan finish" as they used to call it. I agree with what the others have said, start high on this set and see if there is any activity. You know you've gone too high when no one emails you and are in the ballpark when the emails start flooding in. Then you just have to pick out the serious buyer from the wannabees. Ignore the low-ballers, I swear these people troll the listing looking for deperate sellers so they email everyone. I always get my price not theirs if I'm willing to hold out a few weeks for the right person to look on CL that day. Here's a tip to keeping the new furniture in better condition. I buy furniture felt at the hardware store and cut it to fit around the vacuum cleaner. That way if the machine hits a piece of furniture the pad protects it from the hard plastic that normall you put a dint into the wood. They sell it on the isle with all the packages of furniture protectors. Because the area is large I buy the rectangular sheet that is 1/4" thick and cut it to the right shape. It has a sticky back so it adheres to the vacuum cleaner. I swear this works like a charm and none of the legs on my furniture have any marks on them since I started doing this a decade ago....See MoreEileen
