We just built a small pond, need ideas on what we can do with it
Comments (5)Welcome to the world of ponding! About the lilies, I've kept lilies in 18 - 19 inches of water and they do just fine. In fact, my hardies thrived at that depth. I've also seen tropicals kept at that depth, and they did fine too. They must be pretty adaptable. That's way too shallow and too small for koi, but I think you can keep a few goldfish or mosquito fish if you help shade the water for them in the deeper end to keep it cooler. The lily pads will do a good job of that. A pot with something tall that has broad leaves like taro or lotus placed on the south or west end of the pond would also be a good idea. I was going to say that water hyacinth will do well there, but I'm thinking that they may be illegal in Arizona. They do an excellent job of shading the water if they're legal there. Parrots feather is another option. Pretty much any sun-loving marginal should do well in your pond. Do you have a filter or aeration? Oxygen levels are lower in extremely warm water, so don't overstock your fish. You might also need to add an airstone when temps start getting close to 100....See MoreHelp Needed w/ Layout and Placement of Refrigerator in Small Kitc
Comments (13)Thanks for your suggestions, All! You've given me much to think about. I was trying to figure out if a U shape would work, and it helps to see it drawn out. It would work, but I have to decide whether or not I should give up one or both of the angled cabinets. Love the look of the angles over a strict galley as it opens it up and will make it different from everyone else's in our community....The angled look would tie in so well with the other angles in our unit (It is not a rectangle, but more of a "wedge" shape - narrow at the front door and opening to a wide, panaramic waterview through sliders and picture windows.) Anyway, the angled opening would also would make it feel bigger...but it does cut down a bit on counter and storage space. Think we'll be fine with the cabinet space since the wall we are opening up is 5" thick, so we'll gain that space at the end of each side. We also will be taking the cabinets to the ceiling, so will gain an extra shelf in all wall cabinets. So, prefer the look that creates challenges...but it does help to hear from all of you so we can make these decisions after considering everything!...See MoreNeed help w/countertop ideas to 'go' w/this HUGE fireplace! pics
Comments (5)The floors and fireplace are beautiful... congratulations. I'm not feelin' the gold counters since the fireplace is reading soft gray, a little creamish gray, and rose to me. I'd go in one of two opposite directions on this. Either soapstone to tie into the natural more rustic materials or something with a whiteish ground that will work with a slate backsplash. Love the idea of a slate (ie Fire and Ice) backsplash or quartzite BS in there....See MoreOur Lowes kitchen + need help w/ lighting ideas
Comments (12)Hi maybeiloveyou, I didn't answer your question. My initial response would have been to install bronze light fixtures. However, since you have the stainless hardware, I'd probably stick with a stainless look light fixture. I'm also looking at the Shenandoah cabinets. Depending on the layout I choose I'll have between 12 and 14 cabinets total. I chose the Mission cabinets in Cherry Bordeaux and that quote was just under (a few dollars) $8,000. Maybe I'm being "hosed" by my KD? Did you guys go with the all plywood sides upgrade? Do you have oven cabinets or pantry cabinets? I'm just trying to figure out why my quote is so high. Maybe I should visit another Lowes for a price comparison....See Moredaisychain Zn3b
