Since you're looking to do most of the labor yourself, your biggest expense is going to be the vanity followed by the counter top. It's crazy how much these two things will cost. For the vanity, consider checking out places that offer second hand building materials. Then, look into remnants the counter fabricator may have leftover from other jobs.

I wouldn’t do a lot until you have what it takes to redo this space. ( I would possibly swap the toilet and sink. ) For now, Paint the vanity. New countertops and if possibly hardware ( including faucets ) Paint the walls.

Search Houzz photos for black bathrooms. I would focus on fantastic lighting and go black and cream. No white — it’s one more color — paint your trim glossy black. Find a countertop to match the lighter flooring and then maybe a floating vanity with under lighting. Get an electrician or lighting showroom to give you some ideas. Appropriate mirrors with lighting too. Find a bathroom designer to help you work with what you have.

I love vintage tile, but honestly, the treatment on the ceiling is totally overwhelming. I would consult with some tile experts to see if they could just remove the tile on the ceiling and patch it up, and restore the grout on the remaining wall and floor tile. I'd also replace the vanity top, as it's way too busy for the space. The other challenge in the first bath is that all of your fixtures are different colors - having a pink tub, a white toilet and a cream/yellow sink is too chaotic. I'd hate to get rid of the sink, but maybe going for an all white counter and sink would simplify things. The green fixtures are awesome, though - I'd just source a matching toilet seat.
